BOREDOM, FUNNY SCENES & PRETENSIONS, 9 August 1999
6/10
Author: jan onderwater from Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Mildly enjoyable, above average directed comedy with stretches of boredom (that terrible dream sequence!) as well as some very funny scenes, with a couple of ridiculous and intellectual pretensions on the side. The most remarkable thing about this coming out comedy, in which a homo comes out that he is hetero, is that the makers do not let him fall in love with a single girl, but only with a single mother; it is an old theme of mainstream (German) film again of almost compulsive completing of broken-up families. Were the makers afraid that otherwise the film would not have been acceptable to a large audience if the homo/hetero had not also been a really nice father-figure? Franka Potente is great.
