*** This comment may contain spoilers ***
This all too rare French hardcore thriller is a minor gem desperately in need on a USA DVD release with English subtitles. Right now, the only way to see it (in an OUTSTANDING transfer I might add) is on the 5 disc Exhibition set released in France.
The storyline of a wealthy politician having to face blackmailers who are trying to destroy her career is a familiar one but it is handled here with such style that it takes on a new dimension.
The outstanding direction by Paul Vecchiali really brings out the personalities of the multi faceted characters this film contains. Vecchiali's and Noël Simsolo's outstanding screenplay gives opportunity for excellent dramatic performances from the cast of French sex film vets. as well as cult actors such as Howard Vernon. Also particularly well matched is the excellent accordion and piano based score.
What truly makes this film work is the impeccable photography and art direction. This is not only one of the best photographed hardcore films ever made but simply one of the best uses of lighting and color to emerge of underground cinema, period.
Although the story goes a bit over the top from time to time, Change Pas De Main is one of great pieces of 1970s French cinema.
NOTE: The title is a play on words, translating to both Don't Change Hands and Don't Change Tomorrow.
