The Rhino in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2': Paul Giamatti Looks Downright Terrifying (Photo)

13 May 2013 8:06 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Since "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has been filming all around New York City for the past few weeks, amateur set photographers have managed to snap pictures of just about everybody from the new movie (before an official glimpse of Jamie Foxx's Electro was released, we had already seen blurry shots of him walking through Times Square). In keeping with this flow of information, last week photos were taken of what was assumed to be Paul Giamatti's stunt-double for the movie, and just now "Amazing Spider-Man 2" director Marc Webb tweeted the first official look at Giamatti's character, the Rhino. (As you can see from the photo at the top, photogs also got a glimpse of Giamatti in character this past weekend in Brooklyn.) In the comics, the Rhino (aka Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich) is a thug from an unnamed eastern bloc country who is given superhuman abilities, mostly by wearing »

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenwriters discuss the movie's villains

7 May 2013 11:03 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you thought Tobey Maguire's Spidey had it tough in the third instalment of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy going up against the Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church) and Venom (Topher Grace), then Andrew Garfield's wall-crawler looks set to face an even bigger challenge in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

We already know that Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways) are set to tangle with the web-slinger as Electro and Rhino, while Chris Cooper (American Beauty) will portray Norman Osborn. Throw into that the possibility of an evil Harry Osborn (Dane DeHann) and rumours that Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) will portray Black Cat, and the Marc Webb-directed sequel appears to be setting itself up for a supervillain overload. Not so according to screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness), who offered up a few words on the growing roster of villains in the second »

Man, Dark Horse Comics just won’t slow down. And why should they? In addition to several exciting Star Wars projects on their plate, the premiere indie publisher keeps introducing fantastic original work with a quirky bent: Matt Kindt’s Mind Mgmt, John Arcudi’s The Creep, Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra’s Colder (best mini-series of the year, if you ask me), Brian Wood’s The Massive, and a new Bprd: Vampire series reuniting Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, just to name a few. Here are three more recently announced projects that should stir feathers in the world of surreal horror.

Storyboards and Concept Art from Sam Raimi’s Spider-man 4

8 April 2013 11:21 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Spider-Man 4 will always be one of those great "What if?" films.  What if Sam Raimi had a chance to redeem himself from Spider-Man 3?  What if we had gotten to see John Malkovich as Vulture and Anne Hathaway as Black Cat?  We'll never know, but the artifacts remain.  Storyboard artist Jefrey Henderson has released storyboard he did for Spider-Man 4, and while they're far from anything official (the script was still being worked on when Sony pulled the plug), I am curious about the demon/goblin thing being tossed by Spidey.  The three boards are the only thing Henderson felt he could post without upsetting Raimi, so they're pretty innocuous (Peter kissing a woman, and using a web to stop falling debris), but perhaps there's more exciting stuff out there and one day we'll get to see it. Hit the jump to check out the storyboards. Click over to Henderson's official »

Raimi Talks “Spider-Man 4″ & “World of Warcraft”

11 March 2013 3:17 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Sam Raimi has been all over the news due to Evil Dead and Army Of Darkness 2, but he also got a chance to talk about a couple projects that didn’t happen: Spider-man 4 and World Of Warcraft. Of course, they’ve both since moved on, with Marc Webb rebooting the Spider-man franchise and Duncan Jones taking over on WoW.

Raimi confirmed that Anne Hathaway would have been his choice to play Black Cat. She was clearly destined to play a Cat (with Catwoman now on her resume). What he said on Hathaway:

“I loved what she was doing with the auditions for ‘Spider-Man 4′…I didn’t get to see ‘Batman’ yet, because I’ve been working nonstop on ‘Oz’, but I hear she’s great in it.”

On what happened to World Of Warcraft:

Sam Raimi talks Spider-Man 4

6 March 2013 11:04 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Before Sony has rebooted the Spider-Man franchise under director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield, Sam Raimi was set to reunite with Tobey Maguire for a fourth instalment in the series. Of course, the project ultimately fell apart, paving the way for the studio to take the wall-crawler in a different direction with last year's relaunch The Amazing Spider-Man and now Raimi has offered an insight into how plans for Spider-Man 4 fell apart.

"It really was the most amicable and undramatic of breakups," said Raimi during an interview with Vulture to promote his latest film Oz the Great and Powerful. "It was simply that we had a deadline and I couldn't get the story to work on a level that I wanted it to work. I was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3, and I wanted to make Spider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all. »

The Dark Knight Rises Catwoman Role - Anne Hathaway Killed It in Spider-Man 4 Auditions

6 March 2013 11:27 AM, PST | National Ledger | See recent National Ledger news »

Anne Hathaway was excellent in 'The Dark Knight Rises' role of Catwoman and director Sam Raimi says he is not surprised as her work during auditions for the now defunct 'Spider-Man 4' showed off her skills as a possible comic book action hero on the big screen. The director said Hathaway was fantastic in her auditions for Spider-Man 4 and Raimi isn't surprised she was fabulous in The Dark Knight Rises as Catwoman. The director was the man in charge of the first three 'Spider-Man' movies and says he really wanted Anne for the starring role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in the fourth installment. However the film never got made and Anne went on to play Catwoman in the new Batman movie 'The Dark Knight Rises'. He told Vulture: "I didn't get to see Batman yet, because I've been working non stop... but I hear she's great in it. »

It appears Anne Hathaway was always destined to play a cat-inspired criminal in a comic book movie!

In a new interview with Vulture to promote "Oz the Great and Powerful," Sam Raimi confirmed that Hathaway was lined up to play Felicia Hardy — better known to Spidey fans as Black Cat — in his planned "Spider-Man 4," before he and Sony agreed to cancel the picture. Instead, she went on to play Selina Kyle in "The Dark Knight Rises."

"I didn't get to see Batman yet, because I've been working nonstop on Oz, but I hear she's great in it," he said of Hathaway's Catwoman performance. "I'm not surprised, because I loved what she was doing with the auditions for Spider-Man 4."

Sam Raimi has discussed his reasons for departing the Spider-Man franchise.

Following his 2002 Spider-Man, Raimi made two sequels and was due to produce a fourth movie - with Anne Hathaway in line for the role of Black Cat - but felt unable to develop a quality film on the studio's schedule.

"It really was the most amicable and undramatic of breakups," Raimi told Vulture. "It was simply that we had a deadline and I couldn't get the story to work on a level that I wanted it to work.

"I was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3, and I wanted to make Spider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all.

"But I couldn't get the script together in time, due to my own failings, and I said to Sony, 'I don't want to make a movie that is less than great, so I think we shouldn't make this picture. »
