Proving that there's still life in the old story, Ghostbusters gets another reincarnation, with state-of-the-art animation that's both riotous and genuinely spooky. After a lull, ghost activity is on the up again. Guided by original ghost buster Egon Spengler, the mantle this time is taken up by a group of teenagers: steady Roland; cocky, wheelchair-bound Garrett; would-be hippy Eduardo; gloomy, black-clad Kylie; and ex-baddie ghost Slimer, now helping his friends rid the world of the nastier and meaner ghosts. Did You Know?

This animated series is a continuation, a sequel of sorts, to The Real Ghostbusters (1986). It picks up some seven-years later after the original 'Ghostbusters' disband/break-up, supposedly due to lack of paranormal activity. All the ghosts & goblins simply up and vanish. Suddenly, when strange things/creatures start surfacing again in New York City 1997, 'Egon' recruits an all-new team of 'Ghostbusters' comprised mostly of his best physics class, university students. One of the best episodes was the return of the original "Real Ghostbusters." They appeared in a two-part episode fully dressed in their old-school jumpsuits and carrying their traditional proton packs. Except this time their true age began to show. They began to act/move a little bit slower. See more »

Kylie: If you'd just been rudely awakened after 30 years how would you feel?
Garrett: Extremely hungry.

Very cool show, unhappy that it was cancelled
15 March 2000 | by (New Brunswick) – See all my reviews

Extreme Ghostbusters was (and still is, although no new shows have been made) my absolute FAVORITE cartoon of all time. the characters were like real people, the animation was superb, and the actors were the best (Jason Marsden{Garrett Miller} went on to Disney films), and it teaches that people who may be considered not right for this job, can do it. I say this because in this show, the Ghostbusters are a black man who is a serious scholar, a Spanish man who is considered a slacker, a man who uses a wheelchair, and a woman, all teens. I wish Extreme Ghostbusters was still on air, as I think it would be a really good show for children now to see the Ghostbusters. They don't know about the movies in the 1980's, nor the cartoons that were out. If it was continued, it would be a hit. Extreme Ghostbusters is one of the best animated series of 1997, and it would be really nice if there was a film made, whether animated or live action. I, like many others, am sorry it was cancelled, but I highly recommend the series to anyone who sees it on video in stores.
