Revisit the 1990 Set of 'Twin Peaks' Before the Showtime Revival

15 October 2014 5:28 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Et was on the set of the David Lynch drama with stars Kyle MacLachlan, Lara Flynn Boyle & Sherilyn Fenn

Twin Peaks fans are still reeling over the announcement that the cult classic is returning to television. Although we'll have to wait until 2016 for the Showtime revival, we're brewing a pot of damn good coffee and flashing back to 1990 when Et was on the set in Snoqalmie, Wash., with the relatively unknown cast.

News: TV show comebacks we couldn't help but cheer for!

The original series ran for two season on ABC and was created by David Lynch, who was best known for smaller, dark films like Eraserhead and Blue Velvet.

Kyle MacLachlan was a frequent collaborator of Lynch—he’d starred in Blue Velvet—and became the show's breakout star. His character, Special Agent Dale Cooper, was the oddball officer tasked with solving the mysterious murder of teenage Laura Palmer.

Retro Rondo: A Night of VHS in Poland

Nightbeast

At ten o’clock on the evening of Saturday 26 July, as the lights dimmed inside a 159-seat auditorium inside Wrocław’s nine-screen Kino Nowe Horyzonty, the resounding ambience consisted of chatter, cheers, the clatter of glass bottles and that inimitable sea of punchy hisses as the capacity audience cracked open one beer can after another.

They’d come for a triple bill: Amir Shervan’s Samurai Cop (1989), Don Dohler’s Nightbeast (1982) and Arizal’s American Hunter (1990). Numbers had depleted and decibels had doubled by the time the lights came back on at around quarter-to-three the next morning. The marathon formed part of ‘Midnight Madness: VHS’, the late-night retrospective at New Horizons, western Poland’s excellent film festival, whose annual program also boasts some of the most dependable arthouse titles from the previous twelve months.

An A-z of the 90s films that Generation Y grew up with

20 March 2014 12:16 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The 90s will go down in history as the decade that brought us Titanic. But it also introduced us to Quentin Tarantino and The Matrix. And there was at least one film that began with a Z

A is for Aladdin

Starting with Cadillac Man and ending with Bicentennial Man, Robin Williams made 27 films over the course of the 90s. That's a whole spectrum of Robin Williamses: kooky (Mrs Doubtfire), mournful (What Dreams May Come), creepy (Jack) and annoying (again, Bicentennial Man). Yet the most 90s Robin Williams performance of all is his turn as the Genie in Disney's Aladdin, in which he is allowed to blabber and gibber and yelp and riff about nothing at a mile a minute for ages. It's brilliant, but exhausting. Remember, this film had two sound editors. Pray for them.

B is for The Blair Witch Project

A definitively 90s film because it was »
