Storyline

Professional mercenary Karl Thomasson arrives in Brooklyn to attend the funeral of his brother Randall, who was murdered while trying to stop a carjacking that has been blamed on the "Brotherhood", a vicious street gang led by "Little B." Karl, who believes there is something more to it, goes undercover as Randall's replacement at Lenthrop High School in Brooklyn, where Randall was a history teacher, so Karl can investigate the Brotherhood. Karl becomes the protector of Randall's daughter Anya when their lives are threatened by whoever is behind the recent string of carjackings, and the plot behind the carjackings runs a lot deeper than the Brotherhood, and the threat is a lot closer to Karl and Anya than they dare to think. Goofs

When Drummond shoots Kara he uses a silenced, semi-automatic pistol. He fires three times. There is no recoil and the slide never cycles. If the slide remains stationary the spent casing can't eject, a new round can't be chambered, and the pistol can't fire more than once. See more »

the movie was OK but IMDb's plot summary...
15 March 2005 | by (Joshua Tree, CA, USA) – See all my reviews

First of all, Treat Williams character is named 'Karl Thomasson' NOT 'John Shale' as alluded to in the 'plot summary'. John Shale was Tom Berenger's character's name in the original 'substitute'. Get with it IMDb. As for the movie... it is OK if you like bad guys getting theirs. if you like Treat Williams it is very good. overall I would rate the movie a 6-7. ( I like Treat, Hair is an outstanding movie and I hate musicals.) If you have not seen 'Hair', do so. Its a really great movie about the lengths friends will go for each other. see 'Substitute' only if there's nothing else on or you're a Treat Williams fan. All 4 'Substitute' movies are basically the same plot. Mercenary takes offense at the treatment of others at the hands of thugs and takes matters into his own hands to make the bad guys pay.
