Was originally intended to be darker and more faithful in tone to the original book, however, more songs, characters and family-friendly gags were added to tone down the content.

During Devon and Cornwall's song a scantily clad girl briefly appears. She is "Red-Hot Ridinghood" who was featured in several Warner cartoons in the 1940s.
One of three 1998 animated films Eric Idle performed a voice in, the other two being Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie (1998) and The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue (1998).

Gary Oldman and Bronson Pinchot who voice Ruber and his partner the Griffin first appeared together in True Romance (1993) and also Jaleel White who voiced Bladebeak who was secretly working for Ruber and the Griffin appeared in Family Matters (1989) that was a spin-off to Perfect Strangers (1986) that also stared Bronson Pinchot.
