Sometimes, we figure, you come to a site like this just to find out about a film you didn’t know about. That you want recommendations of movies that you might not otherwise have uncovered. This list, then, has no theme, save that the films on it are really good, and didn’t get much of an audience first time around. That, or they seem to have been forgotten. Few contemporary film composers have made an impact quite like John Powell. From animation to drama to his immediately influential, propulsive Bourne soundtracks, Powell's energetic, emotional and heartfelt blend of symphony orchestra, electronics and percussion make him a singular voice.

Not since United Artists had launched in the 1930s had Hollywood seen anything quite like it. Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg – a trio with a lot of money and a big contacts book between them – came together to launch the first new studio in a generation. It was called DreamWorks Skg, and it was not short on ambition.
Katzenberg would be heading up its animation arm, and soon got to work, with the likes of Antz and The Prince Of Egypt getting things going. But on the live action side, the assumption that Spielberg would exclusively make his films for the studio quickly proved false. Stephen Schwartz, who will receive the founders award at Tuesday night’s Ascap Screen Music Awards in Los Angeles, says the forthcoming movie of his Broadway mega-hit “Wicked” will feature “at least two” new songs.
“Director Stephen Daldry is waiting on us for a draft of the screenplay,” Schwartz tells Variety, referring to himself and original book writer Winnie Holzman. “We’re just having so much fun, revisiting that material we love so much, and thinking about everything you can do on screen to retell the story.”
