Scenes We Love: Half Baked

Right off the bat, I want to make it clear that you don't have to be half-baked to enjoy Half Baked. But if you thought Pineapple Express was hilarious, and you haven't seen Half Baked, it's high time you rectify this problem. Sure, Pineapple Express had James Franco as a drug dealer slash nice Jewish boy overly concerned with his Bubbe, and it had Danny McBride wigging out in his normal (i.e. awesome) way, and yeah, it was almost the perfect stoner crime caper.
But Half Baked has all that and more! It has Dave Chappelle as both a janitor at a lab that just happens to produce pharmaceutical-grade marijuana and a hip-hop star named Sir Smoke-a-Lot who, when high, complains, cries, and complains that he needs a "backiotomy." It has Guillermo Diaz as Scarface, who wants you to know he's Cuban, B! And it has Jim Breuer in

10 Great Films You Didn’t Know Were Directed By Women

From decrying a severe lack of female filmmakers to satirically mocking the concept of judging actresses by how much return on investment they offer, it seems like we've been balls-deep in feminism lately.
We realize that you, dear reader, believe that only men are allowed to direct movies, but that's just not true! Women have a long and storied history with the art of filmmaking, and even though it will probably upset your precious little chauvinist default settings, we're here to tell you that some of your favorite explosions, quotable comedies and fight scenes are directed by the fairer sex. In fact, some of your very favorite films had women at the helm.
Leave your Neanderthal preconceived notions about woman filmmakers at the door, and prepare for your mind to be blown.

Chicago – In the midst of a new season of ‘Entourage’ on HBO, actor Jeremy Piven walked the red carpet during the Chicago premiere of ‘The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard,’ the newly released comedy in which he plays a lead role.
HollywoodChicago.com was there, and got some bonus Q&A action with the director of The Goods, Neal Brennan, and Jeremy Pivens notable acting teacher mother, Ms. Joyce Hiller Piven.

This long-time character actor broke through as a lead character six TV seasons ago, playing the unforgettable Ari Gold, super-agent for the characters of ‘Entourage.’ Expanding his film career, he plays Don Ready in The Goods, and talks about the filming experience.

Interview: Adam McKay and Neal Brennan Give Us ‘The Goods’

If you're Adam McKay, you might just love this interview. However, if you're Neal Brennan, you're going to find this interview incredibly boring. If you're not either of these two men, I have no idea what you'll think.
I say this because Brennan apparently doesn't like reading other people having fun, and, to be fair, the first four minutes of our conversation were overpowered by a looming discussion of Walt Whitman. For some reason.
So as a quick caution to you, dear reader, if you have a problem listening to two creative comedians and one idiot interviewer talk about how flaming a civil war-era poet and thinker was, I'd skip down a few lines and start there. I include a safety page-break so you'll know where the Whitman stuff ends. Also as a caution, we talk about details from the movie, so if you're really sensitive about spoilers, you may want to avoid.

[DVD Review] Jim Breuer: Let’s Clear The Air

There’s a good chance you don’t know who Jim Breuer is. He’s Brian, the perpetually high fellow in Half Baked; but most people probably know Breuer for his recurring SNL character, Goat Boy. His IMDb page also tells me he voiced Randal on the short-lived animated version of “Clerks.” If you are a fan of “that guy” actors, Mr. Breuer is surrounded by that mysterious aura, and this stand-up special is a good way to get acquainted with him.
Clocking in at a breezy 71 minutes, Jim Breuer: Let’s Clear The Air is the kind of comedy special Eddie Murphy might have made, had he been far less vulgar and had his career not gone in a downward trajectory once he had kid. Well Breuer has his own litter and his family takes front and center in much of the stand-up. But first, a word on the DVD menus,

‘Poor Paul’ And His Roommates Back For Second Season

In more news of web series second seasons, Poor Paul returned today kicking off its sophomore run with web television network KoldCast TV, which signed the series before its first season last fall, once again backing the outlandish roommate comedy.
Zack Bennett is back as the eponymous Paul with daytime star Kevin G. Schmidt (The Young and the Restless) and Disney Channel regular Samantha Droke (Suite Life of Zack & Cody) returning as the scene-stealing co-stars. The Disney connection was actually played up in the publicity for the show as we were told that Schmidt and Droke are both starring in another upcoming Disney TV movie, The Princess Protection Program. Who knew?
The only change on the cast was the role of Paul's roommate Clyde, which is being taken over by Wes Whitworth. Stoner comedian Guillermo Diaz (Weeds, Half Baked) is one of the slew of guest stars announced along with Mandy Jiroux,

Guillermo Diaz Takes Us Into the World of Weeds

The actor who coincidentally plays Guillermo on the hit Showtime series talks about his role in the brand new season, , and much more
It might seem like poetic justice, of sorts, that Guillermo Diaz, who's most well-known for his role as the angry Cuban stoner Scarface in Half Baked ("I'm Cuban, B!"... sorry, couldn't resist), now has a recurring role on the hit Showtime series Weeds, which just kicked off its fifth season this past Monday night. Diaz is back in Season 5 playing Guillermo on the popular series, which stars Mary-Louise Parker and, while he didn't appear in the season premiere, rest assured, we will see him very very soon. I had the chance to speak with Diaz over the phone today about his role in the series, and here's what he had to say.
You started on the show in a smaller capacity in Season 3 and then got a

Next Day Air
Directed by: Benny Boom
Cast: Donald Faison, Mike Epps, Cisco Reyes, Mos Def
Time: 1 hr, 30 minutes
Rating: R
Plot: An unthinkably outlandish tale about a young postal worker whose life is turned upside down when one procedural mistake lands him in the middle of an underground war between would-be drug dealers, oddly-named thugs, and Mexican drug lords so intimidating it nearly trumps their very existence. A comical take on how being down on your luck doesn’t nearly measure up to having a very large price on your perpetually “altered” head.
Who’s It For?: TV fans will be lured into this because of Faison’s (Turk on “Scrubs”) inclusion. Since he broke onto the big screen in Clueless his movie career has left much to be desired. Now a TV star, his return to the silver screen is a welcome happening. With a supporting cast
