Storyline

The story's hero (played by Jim Metzler) has lost much of his spine and the love of his life, due to cancer. He's in remission; but decimated in body, shattered in mind, and separated from inner\spiritual peace. Richard uses "object therapy" suggested by his lifelong pal (John Ritter)to project his consciousness into an alternative reality, where he becomes "Rick Stone" - a soft-hearted, tough acting, Private Dick (P.I.) It is here that he works through his existential fight to survive and transcend life. Written by DRory

This is one of those DVDs you pick up in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. That's exactly what I did, and what a mistake -- as most of those $5 DVDs are, by the way. You know the plot by now. It looked like it was shot for about $1.98, and an obscure actor Jim Metzler is terrible in the lead, playing a dying man who wiles away his time dreaming of being a gumshoe in an old B&W Warner Bros.-type Humphrey Bogart mystery thriller. THE SINGING DETECTIVE this ain't. And it isn't good enough to qualify for cult status.
