Big Brother: John McCririck dubs Marc O'Neill a "virus in the house"

30 June 2015 12:35 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Big Brother's Marc O'Neill has been dubbed a "virus" by John McCririck.

John entered the house yesterday as part of this week's Hotel From Hell task and told Digital Spy today that the 24-hour stay - which will be shown on tonight's highlights - had brought back memories of his previous stints on the show.

Big Brother: Charley Uchea on her return to the house, flirting with Marc and condoms

"It was so different this time because I was in with hateful people [before]," he said. "They're nice people [in the house now], aren't they? Except for Marc, they are really nice people. And that's what Bruv doesn't want. They don't want harmony and peace and people all being happy. And as viewers, we want the conflict and them arguing with each other and hating and backstabbing and all that, but they are decent people. Except for Marc, they're decent people in there. »

The Face Of An Angel Review

17 June 2015 7:53 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

This review was originally published during our coverage of the 2015 Leeds Film Festival.

The Face of an Angel sets its sights on the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, still an open wound in the public consciousness. We instinctively crave digestible narratives of heroes, villains and victims: characters that these events refuse to provide. Villains become victims, heroes become villains and, after years of analysis, evidence and testimony, we’re no closer to knowing what really happened in that Perugia flat than we were the day after it happened.

Winterbottom chooses to approach the case through meta-narrative by creating Thomas (Daniel Brühl), an analogue for himself who recognizes the fertile soil of a high profile murder in Siena and explores how he could transform it into worthwhile cinema. Early on the character receives some advice that’s essentially the film’s manifesto: “If you’re going to make a movie, make it a fiction. »

Slideshow: Comedian Richard Lewis on His New Book ‘Reflections From Hell’

24 May 2015 8:35 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Previous | Image 1 of 4 | NextThe new book from Richard Lewis is ‘Reflections From Hell.’

Chicago – The “Prince of Pain” was in Chicago recently. Richard Lewis, the overtly introspective and hilarious stand up comedian, has written a new book – “Reflections From Hell” – and appeared at Chicago’s City Winery, plus sold out two shows at the legendary Zanies comedy club.

The Brooklyn-born Lewis began performing stand-up comedy in late 1970s. After making numerous appearances on David Letterman in the 1980s, he landed on the sitcom “Anything But Love” in 1989, which ran for four seasons. Other TV projects include “Daddy Dearest,” Showtime’s “Rude Awakening,” and a recurring role (as himself) on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Films include “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” “Once Upon a Crime” and “Leaving Las Vegas.” He popularized the phrase “The _____ from hell,” which contributed to the title of his new book, “Reflections from Hell.”

Anna Friel Programmed For I.T.

It's been developing for a while, with Pierce Brosnan attached to star for some months. But I.T. is finally gathering some momentum and filling in the rest of its cast, and the latest to come aboard is Anna Friel. She'll play Brosnan's wife in the techno-revenge thriller from Max Payne / A Good Day To Die Hard director John Moore. The film, which originated with producer David T. Friendly and at one point had Dan Kay on script duty and Stefano Sollima set to direct, sees Brosnan as a self-made businessman in the private plane-leasing trade, who somehow manages to annoy a young, disgruntled I.T. consultant. Naturally, because his nemesis is tech savvy, he decides to threaten Brosnan’s life, family and income. By the sound of it, he's the computer nerd From Hell...James Frecheville (The Drop) is the antagonist, and Stefanie Scott, as previously reported, is playing Brosnan's daughter, »

John Constantine: Rise and Fall of a Superman

15 May 2015 12:13 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Martin Carr on Constantine: The rise and fall of a Superman…

I never was a comic book fan. Had no affinity for the medium. Watchmen was only purchased for research purposes before the cinematic release. And what’s more I only just made it through the tome. You see, at that tender age I was convinced comic books and graphic novels were not an adult endeavour. Super heroes on the written page, irrespective of gender, powers, political leanings or violence quota failed to connect with me. Instead I spent my childhood watching films including Driller Killer, Re-Animator, Death Race 2000 and Shogun Assassin. Those and other more family friendly fare informed my decisions. Something which was counterbalanced by access to classical literature, including Dickens, Austen and Stoker with the occasional Shelley thrown in. Missing the boat you see is never solely down to the individual, not when family are involved. »

Initial Set List For Guitar Hero Live Includes Ed Sheeran, Skrillex And Fall Out Boy

12 May 2015 7:25 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Activision may be gearing up for a grand reveal at E3 next month, but that doesn’t mean the studio can’t grant backstage passes to budding Guitar Hero Live fans in order to tease some details ahead of time.

Part and parcel of the series’ lucrative success a generation ago was the songs featured on the set list, and developer FreeStyleGames – creative minds behind 2009’s spinoff DJ Hero – is ensuring that Live‘s soundtrack is just as memorable, with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy and Rage Against The Machine toplining the game’s early set list.

That said, the music scene isn’t what it was a decade ago when the franchise first debuted, and Guitar Hero Live will reflect the new tones and tastes of 2015, all the while retaining some old school classics for good measure.

Recently, Animal Planet announced the lineup for its annual Monster Week celebration of all things related to terrifying beasts, real and legendary. Monster Week 2015 will air nine nights, May 17 through May 25, on the network, and some of the premiere titles are eye-catching, to say the least, sounding more like Syfy movies, with program names including Serial Killer Tiger at Large and Killer Hornets From Hell. Earlier this year, new Discovery Channel president Rich Ross promised no more “mockumentaries” on the channel, like has been seen with the Mermaids and Megalodon shows. That promise may have technically applied only to Discovery Channel … Continue reading →

The Callow Way – Where Are The British Comic Book Movies?

22 March 2015 9:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week Neil Calloway wonders why Britain doesn’t make films based on comics…

As someone who usually bemoans the apparent abundance of sequels and comic book adaptations, I was disappointed to hear Alex Garland’s announcement this week that there would not be a sequel to the 2012 film Dredd. Not just because I liked the film, and haven’t had a conversation with someone who didn’t like it (admittedly, I’ve only had a few conversations about it), not just because it was a messed up comic book film aimed squarely at grown ups, but because it was that rarest of things; a good British comic book movie.

Unfortunately, despite near universal good reviews, it made very little money – less than its $45 million dollar budget – and less than half, in fact, than the first Judge Dredd film, widely derided as a failure and released twenty years ago.

Fortitude episode 3 review

If everyone in Fortitude has a secret, then is everyone guilty? Here's Michael's review of episode three...

This review contains spoilers

At some point early in the preparation of From Hell, Alan Moore’s eyes alighted on an advertisement for Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It was the twist he’d been looking for. ‘A holistic detective?’ he said, ‘you wouldn’t just have to solve the crime. You’d have to solve the entire world that the crime happened in.’ It’s truer of more detective fiction than you might think, especially those that are as concerned with whydunnit as they are whodunnit. One of the best examples is An Inspector Calls, which I alluded to in my review of the first episode of Fortitude, particularly in the character of Dci Morton, an outsider who appears in the wake of an unexpected death and who begins to ask »
