Fourth Wall Studios Abruptly Halts Production; ‘Meridian’ To Continue

29 November 2012 1:57 PM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Fourth Wall Studios, the production company that specialized in interactive viewing experiences across multiple media, seemed like it was doing so well. Earlier this year, the studio's Rides.tv platform was the home to Dirty Work, an innovative series that took home an Interactive Emmy Award. A few months after that success, Fourth Wall partnered with one of YouTube's biggest stars, MysteryGuitarMan (aka Joe Penna) to provide a home for the top creator's Meridian series. As it turns out, Fourth Wall's success was just a mirage. The company's billionaire backer, Patrick Soon-Shiong, has changed to company's goals, ending all original Fourth Wall productions and laying off the majority of the company's workforce. It's a surprising move given the studio's success, but Soon-Shiong, who owns a minority stake in Lakers, prefers to focus on the company's technology rather than its original series. “The content will continue, but we are not going »

Ranked: Rolling Stones Albums From Best to Worst

28 November 2012 5:00 PM, PST | Nerve | See recent Nerve news »

Ranked: Rolling Stones Albums From Worst to Best The Stones are having a busy year, so we're taking a look back at their body of work. by Keno Keno is the author of Rolling Thru The Stones, and the webmaster of the longest-running online Stones message board (Gasland), the web's biggest Stones fan site. The Rolling Stones are celebrating fifty years as a band this year, releasing two new songs, and playing a handful of shows, so we asked Keno to assess the recorded legacy of the everybody's favorite leathery blues-rockers.   25. Dirty Work (1986) Things weren't going well between Mick Jagger and the rest of the band during the recording Dirty Work. He was thinking of leaving the Stones, and he was putting more effort into his solo album, which pissed off Keith Richards and the rest of the group. Also, Charlie Watts was fighting his [...] »

MysteryGuitarMan Joe Penna Brings Interactive Thriller To Rides.tv

14 November 2012 8:09 AM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

It's been a few months since we've discussed Joe Penna, the Brazilian guitarist whose MysteryGuitarMan channel is among the most subscribed on YouTube. Penna's still plugging along on his Big Frame-supported channel, but he's also debuted a new series on the Rides.tv platform. It's called Meridian, and it's the biggest and most audacious series we've seen from Penna thus far. Meridian¸ which was created by Penna, follows the life of Jeff, a downtrodden call center employee whose life takes a mysterious turn when he discovers a bizarre cell phone. Jeff is played by Orlando Jones, which reminded me how long it's been since we've heard from Orlando Jones. The former MadTV cast member still has a lot of charisma, and he brings the right amount of it to his role here. The first episode ends on a total cliffhanger, and I really want to watch episode 2 in order to »

All Time Low – Don’t Panic Review

9 October 2012 3:17 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Not many bands in the pop-punk world really break out into the mainstream successfully. For every Yellowcard and Blink-182 that gets a huge hit and a lucky break, there are hundreds of bands like State Champs and The Story So Far that just can’t find that boost. It’s never for a lack of talent, but rather because of the niche audience that enjoys this particular genre. Many genuinely gifted bands get stuck playing basements and excrutiatingly small venues despite what they have to offer.

All Time Low is not one of those bands. Already nearing their ten year anniversary as a band, they are a group of guys that have had more ups and downs in their career than many of their peers would be lucky enough to have. After a fantastic trio of releases that began with The Party Scene and continued to grow into So Wrong, »

Announcing the 2012 Primetime Emmy Award Winners!

23 September 2012 9:26 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Homeland and Modern Family were the big winners at this year's Emmys! Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show, opening with a cute monologue that boasted tons of stars like Zooey Deschanel, Mindy Kaling, and Lena Dunham (just to name a few). As the show went on, we were treated to Josh Groban covering One Direction, Breaking Bad getting the old-timey treatment, and Aziz Ansari showing off an impressive British accent. As for the winners, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Aaron Paul all added their second trophies to their cases, while Damian Lewis was among the first-time winners. One of the biggest shocks of the night was that Mad Men was completely shut out for the first time ever, and Bryan Cranston lost out in the outstanding lead actor in a drama series category for the first time ever. Check out all of the winners when you read more. Outstanding Drama Series »

Movie Review: ‘House At The End Of The Street’

21 September 2012 11:51 AM, PDT | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

It’s hard to have high expectations these days when it comes to PG-13 thrillers. The reason I used the word ”thriller” is because that is exactly what House at The End of the Street is, a thriller. I found few things I really enjoyed about the film but overall Hates is a snoozer that holds little to the imagination and brings a twist at the end that if you aren’t expecting it then you weren’t paying attention.

Elisabeth Shue and Jennifer Lawrence play mother and daughter Sara and Elissa. The two have moved into a new house that is next door to a tragic family murder that happened four years prior. The people of the town are happy to welcome them but turn a blind eye whenever they mention the house next door. Until a backyard BBQ ensues do we find out their reasons for hating the »

What’s Trending? Primetime Emmy Nominations!

23 July 2012 5:40 PM, PDT | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Primetime entertainment got some mainstream and social media buzz last week as powers that be at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 2012 Primetime Emmy nominations General Emmy tweets trended worldwide on Twitter, especially amongst the top nominees. The highest volume of social media interactions belonged to Game of Thrones with 11 nominations, The Big Bang Theory and Zooey Deschanel's New Girl with 5 nominations, and Glee with 3 nominations, followed by all those in the category snubs and surprises. And while it was kinda sorta interesting to watch the nominated individuals, studios, production companies, and other entertainment organizations flock to social media to talk about their nominations (or lack thereof), there was at least one Primetime Emmy Awards category where all that social media engagement was status quo.
