I like Aaron Eckhart and I’m actually looking forward to his next movie where he leads a platoon of Marines against… aliens! How can that not be good? The film is called Battle: Los Angeles and the title says it all (except the aliens part).
Ekchart was cast as the lead back in November of 2008, following the success of The Dark Knight and this summer, it was announced that Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena and Bridget Moynahan would be joining the fight as well, alongside Ramon Rodriguez (TF2: Revenge of the Fallen) and R&B singer–songwriter/record producer/actor, Ne-Yo.
Two new photos surfaced over the holidays for the sci-fi action flick; one depicting Eckhart in battle attire and the other of an explosion.
When hostile aliens invade, they go straight to blowing up La

Some new set photos from Battle: Los Angeles have popped up online. They’re not bad for set photos when you consider one of them shows a mushroom cloud going up. That’s slightly better than an actor in costume leaving their trailer. I guess that’s the true power of mushroom clouds. Oh, and they’re the effect of an explosion killing thousands upon thousands of people. That’s also one of the things they’re known for. There’s also a photo of Aaron Eckhart in costume looking like a bad-ass.
Here’s the official plot synopsis so you know what causes mushroom clouds and bad-ass Eckhart: When unknown forces put the City of Angels under attack, it’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to come to the rescue. As the invasion hits the streets of L.A., the Marines become »

Christmas in La.
It is, as are so many things in this bedeviling City of Angels, a constant pastiche of the worthy, the traditional, the transplanted, the craven and the outlandish. Yet, as the rest of the continent falls into a deep freeze, it is heartening to find that in the SoCal realism, as it is, of the season, there is always a bit of magic in the air. Specifically at the Wiltern Saturday night. That’s where local punk legends X will be, to quote one of their tunes from the '80s, painting the town blue in what seems to be a hometown tradition in the making. Fo »

From Hollywood Crush: Tired of vampires and werewolves yet? So may be Hollywood, where there seems to be a scramble to figure out what kind of fantastical creature will be the next big thing. A few months ago, we thought faeries were taking over. But now The Hollywood Reporter is claiming “angels have been identified as the next trend in young-adult fiction.”
Evidence of this supposed craze comes with the announcement that Disney is bringing Lauren Kate’s new young-adult novel “Fallen” to the big screen. The book, which is the first of a four-part series, involves a love triangle between a teen girl and two guys, both of whom are fallen angels.
Sounds like “Twilight” with cherubim, and I can already envision the “Team Daniel” and “Team Cam” t-shirts aligned to each of the angelic suitors. Angels as love interests is hardly a new concept, of course, with films like “The Bishop’s Wife, »

Chicago – When true film fans receive the monthly Criterion newsletter, they usually skim it looking for their favorite films. It’s not that Criterion really ever makes bad decisions, but when a personal favorite gets the call, it’s like watching the baseball player you grew up idolizing get inducted into the Hall of Fane. Such is the feeling I get when I look at the Criterion Blu-Ray release of “Wings of Desire,” one of the most lyrically beautiful films ever made.
Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
Wim Wenders’ 1987 masterpiece is the filmmaker’s ode to his favorite city, Berlin, using faith and love as its instruments. Some readers may know the story better from the Nicolas Cage remake “City of Angels,” but that film is merely a shadow of one of the most acclaimed works of the last three decades. Bruno Ganz plays Damiel, an angel who wanders the streets of Berlin »

Wings of Desire is one of those films that I’ve always wanted to see, but been weary of getting around to watching. Sure, it’s a well-respected classic of its time, often cited as one of the great films of the 1980’s, and held the cache of “the foreign film people who don’t watch foreign films love” much like films like Amelie or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. But when the film came out Pauline Kael decimated it in her review. And I hate being the movie guy who doesn’t like films that everyone else likes, which is often the case. My review after the jump.
Kael was wrong; it’s a touching fable about two angels hovering over Germany. They are Damiel (Bruno Ganz) and Cassiel (Otto Dumont), and they listen in on a number of different people as they observe humanity from a ablack and white distance. »

Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire (Der Himmel uber Berlin) centers around two guardian angels, Damiel (Bruno Ganz) and Cassiel (Otto Sander). The duo .alongside other angels- act as witnesses to all that takes place around them on Earth (the streets of 1987 West Berlin, to be precise). Moving invisibly through the haunted city, they observe, collect and share people's thoughts, dreams, memories and fears with each other. After an eternity of observing, Damiel begins to ponder the possibility of becoming mortal, and when he encounters and falls for a lonely trapeze artist named Marion (Solveig Dommartin), he decides to take the plunge and become human.
Until Damiel makes that leap, nearly two-thirds into the movie's 127-minute running time, there really isn't much of a structured plot to speak of in Wings of Desire. The film is more of a reflection on the human condition, expressed through a series of sequences of inner monologues. »

Stephen Norrington, the director that kicked off the Blade franchise and caused Sir Sean Connery to retire after the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen debacle, has submitted a well-received draft script for his new Crow film, according to an anonymous source at Mania. As we reported last December, Norrington is prepping the film for Relativity Media (The Wolfman, MacGruber) and has promised an "almost documentary style" to differentiate the reboot from the fantastical gothic original. A "new character and storyline" are promised, so this isn't a remake per se, staving off the problem of having to exactly replace the iconic Brandon Lee, who was famously, tragically killed just before filming finished on The Crow 1.But Norrington's Crow will have to work hard to avoid the pitfalls of the rest of the series, which staggered with City of Angels, reeled with Salvation, and finally collapsed choking to the floor and expired with Wicked Prayer. »
Oh my Goth, Abby is going to L.A.! Pauley Perrette’s NCIS lab rat-slash-tattoo enthusiast will cross over (for real) to NCIS: La this November, sources confirm to me exclusively. While Abby has talked to the Left Coast expansion team on the phone, this will be her first time touching down at Lax. Sadly, it looks like it won’t be much of a vacation, as she finds out not everybody in the City of Angels sports a halo. Someone’s going to abduct our dear Abby! Perrette’s La adventure is slated to air Nov. 24. (Additional reporting »

Paramount Digital's Circle of Ei8ht just released a trailer on MySpace, setting up for the online premiere of the series on October 27. We took an in-depth look at the myriad of moving pieces that brought this project together in our Anatomy of a Deal feature on Circle of Ei8ht back in August. The supernatural series stars stars Austin Highsmith as Jessica, a newcomer to the City of Angels, who just moved into a loft on the eighth floor of a spooky downtown building called The Dante. It sounds something like a haunted Melrose Place, with her neighbors all being twenty-something good looking bohemians. Naturally, there are some gruesome deaths going down in this place and for some reason Jessica takes it upon herself, and her beefy neighbor Evan (Ryan Doom) to solve them. Joining her on the cast are Road Trip's skinny man DJ Quall, Katie Lowes, »

The guys behind Ong Bak are tired of having to dub their movies for international release, so they're gonna make one in English with another martial-arts butt kicker, Robin Shou. Where have you been since Mortal Kombat? Oh wait, that question kind of answers itself... Director Prachya Pinkaew joins forces again with stunt coordinator Panna Rittikrai for City Of Angels, which really should get itself another title; I can think of two other films using it that I wish to hell I hadn't seen. »

Rumor has it, Justin Timberlake has been snapped partying without the companion of his girlfriend Jessica Biel. On Friday, October 2, he was spotted spending some time along with a group of women at Crown Bar in the City of Angels, Radar Online reports.
At that time, the "Sexy Back" hitmaker, who chose to wear black glasses and showed off a slightly longer hair style during the night outing, was allegedly pictured hanging at a table with a close female friend who is a promoter. At one point, he was said to have enjoyed seeing a blonde who stood and danced on the couch right behind him.
Additionally, he was also reportedly pictured chatting with all the women and "kept a bottle of vodka on the table for all to enjoy." When Justin talked with of all the beauties, one lady put her arm around him for a while, Radar Online claims. »
In a piece examining what movie projects former News Corporation and 20th Century Fox COO Peter Chernin, Variety brings to light three new projects including one that's got Leonardo DiCaprio attached to it.
The DiCaprio thing is called The Deep Blue Goodbye and could turn out to be a new franchise for the actor. It's the first novel in John D. MacDonald's popular Travis McGee books, of which 21 have been published. Goodbye first came out in 1964.
For a series of crime books the character of McGee is unusual in that he's not a former law enforcement officer or private gumshoe. Instead, he's a self-professed "salvage consultant" who makes his money taking odd jobs for clients that need goods recovered. Every one of MacDonald's McGee books have had a color in its title. The screenplay for the Goodbye film was penned by Dana Stevens (City of Angels, For Love of the Game »
