Fraser Likes Them Young

31 October 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Fans of Bedazzled (2000) star Brendan Fraser are ga-ga for the Hollywood hunk - and most of them are still in kindergarten. The 31-year-old goofball's roles in George of the Jungle (1997), Blast from the Past (1999) and box-office smash Mummy, The (1999) have won him a following made up principally of kids - and that's exactly how he likes it. He says, "They're the most loyal, perhaps the brightest, most well-meaning. When I'm in the airport, I feel this tugging at my leg and I look down and see this small child clinging to me. I look round and I know their parents are thinking, 'Why is my child holding onto that strange, tall man? Oh, I get it, it's that guy from the video that I put on to give the babysitter a rest'." »

Mummy 2: It'll Be Even Better

18 October 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brendan Fraser is convinced the sequel to his 1999 hit film, Mummy, The (1999), will be even better than the original. Brendan will reprise his role as a confused treasure hunter in the big-effects sequel, Mummy Returns, The (2001) - and is certain audiences will love the frightening flick. He says, "I'm going to go out on a limb and say this one is going to be much better. We're not doing a remake. We're taking what worked in the first one and making that even better!" And hearthrob Brendan is just as enthusiastic about his co-star, American wrestling hero Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. WWF hero, The Rock) - even though the two never met. He explains, "In Morocco where we filmed, The Rock is a myth, a legend and, in our movie, one scary guy. I never got to meet him because he left Morocco before I got there, but all the Moroccans were in awe of him. The Rock has been cyber-scanned. It's going to be really fun and chilling for the audience." »

John Hannah Only Doing Mummy 2 For Free Decorations

23 August 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

John Hannah only agreed to star in the sequel to hit Hollywood flick Mummy, The (1999) so he could decorate his flat with free Egyptian designs. The Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) star once again teams up with Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser in Mummy Returns, The (2001) - and he's on a reported $1.5 million contract. But the 38-year-old Scot wasn't interested in the cash. He jokes, "I decorated my entire house with leftover stuff from the first Mummy film. I got a big van down to the set one day and kitted out my conservatory and bathroom... The stuff's fine as long as it doesn't rain - because it's all fake and papier mache. But, having said that, it doesn't rain inside my flat very often unless the sprinkler system goes off." Hannah is filming for the next five weeks at PINEWOOD STUDIOS outside London, playing Jonathan Carnahan - the hapless bounder who gets dragged into another fight against ancient Egyptian supernatural forces. »

The Rock Signs For "The Mummy" Prequel

16 August 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

WWF star Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. The Rock) has signed to star in his own scary movie - a prequel to the second The Mummy (1999) film. The 28-year-old wrestling champ is currently filming Mummy 2, The (2001) - the follow-up to last year's summer hit Mummy, The (1999) - playing a brand-new monster called the Scorpion King And studio bosses at Universal are so impressed with the WWF star's character, they've commissioned a prequel movie - telling the monster's epic story. An insider on Mummy 2, The (2001) says, "Lots of new monsters and creatures have been created for this movie, one of whom is played by The Rock He's done such a good job, Stephen Sommers, the writer and director of the two Mummy films, has been asked to produce a spin- off movie just about his character. This is totally separate to Mummy 3 which is still in the pipeline." Mummy 2, The (2001) is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios in London and is set to be released in May 2001. »

Hannah Slams Brit Film Industry

3 May 2000 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

John Hannah is thrilled he has bagged the role of MR BENN - but is furious the british film will be funded by a foreign company. Mummy, The (1999) star will be taking the lead in the big screen version of the popular British cartoon. The tale is based on the adventures of a man who changed into fancy dress and becomes the person he is dressed as. But the Scottish actor cannot begin work on the movie until there is proper funding - something British companies are not keen to provide. He says, "It's a great script - really wonderful. But at the moment it looks like it will be financed out of Britain. Which is unfortunate, like Sliding Doors (1998), like Circus (2000), all British movies which have had to be funded from overseas. Anything British with any kind of originality it seems that the financiers get very nervous about... In this country there is no money for development which means that a lot of British movies get made that just aren't ready and don't have a good enough script. People are rushing and don't take enough care." »
