Tom Cruise Faces an Ancient Evil in First 'The Mummy' Trailer

4 December 2016 8:27 PM, PST | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

When most people think of The Mummy, they likely think of the tongue-in-cheek, Brendan Fraser-starring reboot from the late '90s that was less a horror movie and more of a family adventure that went for laughs instead of scares. But when The Mummy first emerged back in 1932, it was unmistakably a horror movie about a young woman stalked by the reanimated corpse of an ancient Egyptian prince.  So when a reboot of The Mummy hits theaters on June 9, 2017, it already has the...

The Mummy Director Alex Kurtzman Says Dracula Untold Is Not Canon

4 December 2016 7:30 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Earlier tonight, Universal dropped the first trailer for their upcoming reboot of The Mummy. Terrifying and action packed in equal measure, it promised a more mature and refreshing take on the franchise, one that looks to be light years away from the Brendan Fraser-led movies that we saw over a decade ago. More importantly, however, it’s shaping up to be a promising start for the studio’s new cinematic universe.

We say “start” because despite 2014’s Dracula Untold, it’s actually The Mummy that will kick things off. The former film was originally supposed to be the beginning of this new monsters universe, but given the poor reception it received upon hitting theatres, the studio hit the reset button and has now wiped it from canon.

Watch ‘The Mummy’ Scare the Bejeebies Out of Tom Cruise in First Full Trailer(Video)

4 December 2016 7:01 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Tom Cruise comes face to face with “The Mummy”… and then all hell breaks lose. The first full-length trailer starts off quietly with Cruise (as a former Navy Seal), Courtney B. Vance and Annabelle Wallis aboard a plane transporting an ancient sarcophagus. Apparently mummies are afraid of flying because the ancient wonder makes herself known in a very unpleasant way. Jon Spaihts wrote the script, with Alex Kurtzman directing and producing alongside Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel this first film in Universal’s ambitious Classic Monster Universe. Tom Cruise Brings The Mummy To Life In New Trailer For Universal’s Reboot

4 December 2016 6:07 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After getting a sneak peek earlier this week, Universal has now debuted the very first trailer for The MummyAlex Kurtzman’s franchise overhaul that thrusts Sofia Boutella into the role of the ancient deity. Tom Cruise saw her and yes, she’s very, very real.

Cracking open a brave new world of gods and monsters, the studio’s reboot has been pitched as the first step in their grand universe, one which will, through time, host creature features starring the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Invisible Man, and many more. Whether or not it’ll take off like the Marvel Cinematic Universe though, which is obviously the blueprint here, remains to be seen. After all, DC tried to do something similar and so far, they haven’t seen much success with their films.
