Power Rangers: Could Strong Toy Sales Lead To A Sequel To The Box Office Dud?

1 June 2017 1:45 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Earlier this year, we saw the return of the beloved TV franchise Power Rangers to the big screen. It was the first theatrically-released film since Turbo: A Power Rangers movie in 1997 20 years prior. As such, fans and film lovers watched to see how if the world would accept this new interpretation. The trailers for the film were solid, and it seemed like it could do decently well at the box office.

Sadly, it received a soft $40 million opening, and only went on to gross $140 million worldwide on its $100 million budget. In terms of the film itself, it likely lost a decent amount of money once you took the advertising costs into account. However, it can’t be forgotten what the real moneymakers are here: the toys. There’s a reason why toy companies would invent a TV series around their made up figures — because they served as 30-minute commercials for the Real product. »

Who Are the Power Rangers? A Primer to the Color-Coded Teen Superheroes

20 March 2017 9:39 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

The colorful group of five known as the Power Rangers were originally introduced to U.S. audiences in 1993 with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television show.

The concept focused on a group of high school students who were infused with unique superpowers and teamed up to save the world. Two critically drubbed movies were released subsequent to the TV series: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997. Now, for the first time in 20 years, Lionsgate is bringing the '90s TV show back to the big screen with Saban’s Power Rangers, »

'Power Rangers': Film Review

19 March 2017 8:07 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Twenty years after the last Power Rangers theatrical release, the sci-fi series returns with an updated visual style and reconfigured storyline, as the Saban Entertainment property moves from 20th Century Fox to Lionsgate. Unlike the TV program (still running after 24 seasons), the feature films faded away after 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, the follow-up to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, released two years earlier.

The current version creatively reimagines the Power Rangers’ origins by establishing them as a team of intergalactic protectors, which certainly provides a high degree of flexibility for potential »

Stars: Edward DeRuiter, Jenna Parker, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, Clarissa Thibeaux, Travis Lincoln Cox | Written and Directed by Emile Edwin Smith

By now you probably all know I have a soft spot for ridiculous shark movies, be they from Roger Corman, The Asylum, Syfy or anyone else… Which is why I always Have to subject myself to whatever treasures this disparate genre provide. Be it a Zombie Shark, Ghost Shark, Sharknado, Sharktopus, a 3-Head Shark, a Swamp Shark etc., etc…. whatever!?!

This time round we’ve got killer sharks and an environmental message in Ice Sharks. A Syfy channel originjal movie from The Asylum (so its a low-budget double-header) which sees a team of expert scientists are studying the effects of climate change on marine life at a research station deep in the Arctic. Suddenly, out of nowhere, hell breaks loose when a new breed of aggressive, ravenous sharks suddenly crack through »
