Election Casts Doubt on Hollywood’s Relations With China

14 December 2016 8:30 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In October, Wang Jianlin, chairman of the Dalian Wanda Group, came to Hollywood to hail the deepening cooperation between the U.S. and China. Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Motion Picture Academy, praised him for building “an unprecedented bridge” between the two cultures, and announced the naming of the Wanda Gallery at the Academy’s new museum.

Just two months later, much has changed. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened sweeping tariffs on Chinese goods, which portends a more fraught relationship with the Middle Kingdom. On Capitol Hill, Democrats and Republicans are raising alarms about Chinese acquisitions of U.S. entertainment companies. And in China, there are rumblings that the flow of Chinese capital abroad could be curtailed.

“The potential exists for a very different relationship,” says Scott Harold, a China expert at the Rand Corp.

Shaun Eddleston reviews the September 19th edition of Monday Night Raw

We left last week’s episode on a pretty high note, especially concerning the fantastic main event (read my review here), and with Clash Of The Champions under a week away, Raw needed to maintain that momentum this week. What repurcussions would Seth Rollins face for his interruption last week? Could Cesaro bring his score in the best-of-7 series up to even things out? How well would the new Cruiserweight Division fare on the flagship show?

Mick Foley sets up several matches

An angry, focused Roman Reigns seethed in the ring before Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley cut off his speech. Foley announced that Seth Rollins will battle Rusev next up in the show, and Reigns will take on Rusev at Clash of Champions.

Foley then talked about the tenuous nature of his general manager position.

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016

DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl. »

A few weeks ago, four days before Christmas to be exact, I said that I loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and had problems with Supergirl.  While I still love Episode VI of a saga that took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, there are two things that bother me.
