‘Mr. Robot’ Creator Sam Esmail on Why There Is Only One Correct Choice for the Best TV Show of 2017

‘Mr. Robot’ Creator Sam Esmail on Why There Is Only One Correct Choice for the Best TV Show of 2017
A TV creator, TV critic, and TV editor walk into a podcast — one survives.

This would be a very bad joke if it was, in fact, a joke, and not a real-life scenario that happened just recently. On a special holiday edition of Very Good TV Podcast, “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail spoke with IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers and TV Editor Liz Shannon Miller with the intent of winning a war. Only one could exit in triumph, and the stakes were high: picking the best TV show of 2017.

Working in Esmail’s favor was a lack of bias: He’s not here to explain why the third season of “Mr. Robot” was the best show on television this year — even though it is very, very good. He’s backing another horse.

Before we reveal Esmail’s pick, here are the contenders:

Twin Peaks

Designated Enforcer: Sam Esmail

Mark Wahlberg Hopes That God Will Forgive Him For Starring in Boogie Nights

We've all made some bad choices in our lives that we regret. It's life! It's what we do as human beings. We just have to learn from our mistakes and live with the mistakes that we've made.

Mark Wahlberg has made a lot of mistakes in his acting career. The Happening and the Transformers are a few that just pop into my head, but those aren't the films that he's hoping God will forgive him for. Nope! During a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, the actor reveals that he hopes God will forgive him for Boogie Nights! He says:

"I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I've made some poor choices in my past. Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list."

I can understand that to an extent because of the film's subject matter. Hell, he previously said

7 Actors That Got Screwed Over By Comic Book Movies

Acting in a blockbuster is not all candy and sunshine. With hundreds of millions of dollars riding on the film’s success, a lot of pressure can be placed on the crew which is then transferred to the actors. That’s not to say that this is a frequent thing, but it has occurred enough to the point where it’s burst in sudden ways, such as George Clooney and David O. Russell’s fist fight during the filming of Three Kings or Christian Bale’s infamous rant against cinematographer Shane Hurlbut on the set of Terminator Salvation.

What tends to really happen, though, is things change during production. What someone signed on to do initially was altered while filming and set the actor on a different course without them even knowing about it until it was too late. This happens more often then we’d like to think, especially

Goodbye Christopher Robin is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Woman in Gold) and will be released in Us theaters by Fox Searchlight Pictures on October 13, 2017.

Carter Burwell said about the score:

“One of the riskier decisions Simon Curtis and I made with the score was to withhold the main theme until the middle of the film, when A. A. Milne begins to write and his friend Ernest Shepard begins to illustrate “Winnie The Pooh”. We did this to make that moment especially noteworthy, to make it the turning point of the story. Before that point, the music plays

‘Game of Thrones’ Recap: “Eastwatch” – To Catch a Walker

Your regular recapper Kayti Burt has gone north to capture a White Walker, so I’m filling in again this week. Dracarys! After the heart-stopping insanity of last week’s “Spoils of War,” it’s not surprising that Game of Thrones (and to a large extent their VFX budget) spent the subsequent week in a much quieter place, setting up its final two episodes of the season. What is surprising is how quickly we can take for granted the payoff of seven seasons worth of conversations and world building, as things which used to take 10 episodes to happen (…

Game Of Thrones Cinematographer Says The Next Episode is Better Than Last Week's Dragon Battle!

For most Game of Thrones fans last week's episode 'Spoils of War' was easily one of the most action-packed episodes the series has ever aired. But if you were one of those fans that who thought last Sunday's fiery dragon battle was the best, be prepared for something better next week. That's because Vancouver-raised cinematographer Robert McLachlan says this Sunday's episode will blow you away.

"When I saw the rough cuts of both Sunday night's episode and this upcoming one, most of us actually... liked the upcoming one better than the battle scene one.""Having said that, the battle one wasn't put together and all the elements weren't in place and the music wasn't there and so forth. But as a really solid, satisfying episode, I actually like (the upcoming) episode 5."That's all I can tell you or else HBO will come and chop my head off if

The meeting of Jon and Daenerys is one that Game of Thrones fans have anticipated for a long time. In "The Queen's Justice" fans finally got their wish as fire and ice came together and aligned. Season 7 episode 4, "Spoils of War," continued the story with some sparks even beginning to fly between the two on Dragonstone. All this interaction has added more fuel to the fire that the HBO series will end with Jon and Dany sitting on the throne together as husband and wife. It remains to be seen however if Game of Thrones will (or should) make this happen.

HBO Viewership Unaffected By Leak, Network Concerned About Breach

The internal leak by the overseas HBO affiliate, Star India, did not hurt the viewership of Sunday’s marvelous episode of Game of Thrones. The episode which caused many fans to consider it as the best, or at least one of the best in the shows run brought in just over 10 million viewers, narrowly beating out the Season 7 premiere according to Deadline. The "Spoils of War" appeared online on the Friday before its scheduled Sunday night viewing slot. Despite the leak of the episode, HBO's epic fantasy series showed no loss in ratings as it was the show's most watched episode to date.

Game of Thrones has always been unpredictable, and now with the increased pace of Season 7, the meetings and battles with major consequences are happening far more often, and fans simply can't risk not tuning in. While they could have found the episode online days before, from what we understand,

Could Those Elaborate Game Of Thrones Cloaks Really Be Crafted From An Ikea Rug?

(Aotn) We have found ourselves more than impressed with the special effects featured in the HBO dram series “Game Of Thrones”. We are especially reeling from last weeks amazing episode “Spoils Of War”, where the crew appeared to spare no expense in creating one of, if not, the most epic battle sequence in the history of the series.

We probably feel this way because we finally got to see those darn dragons in action, but either way it was a battle that fans of the series have been holding out to see for quite a long time. It is fascinating to think about what went on behind the scenes to create many of these incredible visuals, however sometimes certain aspects can take us by surprise as well.

Fans of “Game Of Thrones” have surely also been impressed by the shows elaborate costuming, especially those elaborate cloaks worn by not only
