Nick Cassavetes Will Direct Kristen Stewart In Dark Crime Film Cali

Nick Cassavetes has made a lot of attempts at being a jack of all trades, starting out in a career as an actor before moving on to directing films as varied as the 1997 relationship drama She's So Lovely and the 2007 crime film Alpha Dog. But by far his biggest success, and one he's never been able to match, was 2004's The Notebook-- yes, Nicholas Sparks probably gets the lion's share of the credit for writing the book it was based on, but Cassavetes put his name on it, and you'd think that success would lead to a whole lot of others in the same vein. Nick Cassavetes Will Take K.Stew to 'Cali'

8 May 2012 4:41 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

This wild ride officially has a driver.

Nick Cassavetes is set to return to gritty territory as the "Alpha Dog" director signs on to call the shots for the indie thriller, "Cali," according to Variety.

"Cali" tells the Tarantino-esque tale of Mya (Kristen Stewart) and Chris, two lovebirds with a knack for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a snuff film starring Mya, they skip town with a bundle of cash before anyone realizes the flick's a fake. Years later, Mya's quest to save the younger sister she left behind requires a return to the San Fernando Valley, where she and Chris must face a whole slew of freaks and psychos.

Nick Cassavetes' most successful film to date might be "The Notebook," but the son of John Cassavetes is no stranger to the rugged indie Diy style pioneered by his father — and the style that it sounds might be appropriate for "Cali. »
