Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures has strengthened its Afm war chest with international rights to the action title starring Ryan Kwanten, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke.

Blunt Force Trauma centres on a deadly network of underground gunfights in South America called The Game.

Kwanten will play a young man and Pinto a vengeful woman who meet on their quest to locate the clandestine scene’s elusive champion.

Ken Sanzel of Numb3rs and The Replacement Killers fame wrote and directs Blunt Force Trauma, while Eric Brenner and Gary Preisler are the producers and hold Us rights.

Movie Review: John Wick

23 October 2014 9:18 PM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

John Wick is a film about an ex-hitman who has recently been done wrong by some folks who are going to really regret doing so. Call it luck or karma but this is one hitman cannot get away from who he ultimately is. The film was directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, both of whom have decades of experience in the film business as stuntmen. While it is not uncommon in major films to have the lead stunt-man run the second unit like an assistant director, this is the duo’s first attempt to reach the big leagues.

The film is set up primarily as a flashback. We open with a bloody John Wick (Keanu Reeves) stumbling out of a vehicle. He is clearly in dire straits, but he does not call out for help. Instead, he watches an old video clip on his smartphone of his wife – a day at the beach. »

'The Equalizer' Interview with Director Antoine Fuqua | Exclusive

24 September 2014 8:36 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Antoine Fuqua is a filmmaker I have always admired and respected, not only for his skill behind the camera, but for the diversity of projects he undertakes. After cutting his teeth by directing a number of iconic music videos in the 1990s, including Coolio's "Gangster's Paradise," Prince's "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," and Toni Braxton's "Another Sad Love Song," Antoine Fuqua transitioned into features with The Replacement Killers and Bait before his breakout hit Training Day, where he directed Denzel Washington to a Best Actor Oscar.

From there, he took on a number of vastly different films such as the war drama Tears of the Sun, the medieval epic King Arthur, the grounded action-packed adaptation Shooter (which I still think is vastly underrated), the urban crime drama Brooklyn's Finest and last year's big-budget action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen.

Fuqua Talks The 'Hard R' Rating Of "Equalizer"

26 August 2014 10:31 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Aside from "King Arthur," filmmaker Antoine Fuqua is known for making action films that earn their R rating. "Shooter," "Training Day," "Olympus Has Fallen," "The Replacement Killers" and "Tears from the Sun" all deserve that rating because he doesn't compromise and rarely glorifies the violence.

The same holds true for his upcoming cinematic reboot of "The Equalizer" franchise. The Denzel Washington-led film has been labelled a "hard R" and Fuqua spoke with Collider on the set about why that's the case:

"I'm a product of older filmmakers I guess, the past where you get to make movies and scenes are what they are.  You know if you think about Scorsese back in the day when he was making Taxi Driver, or Coppola or Frankenheimer, Sidney Lumet, they're making films where you witness violence in a real way.

And sometimes violence in a very real way is much faster and »

Danny Trejo interview: Bullet, Machete, Con Air, Muppets

Interview Duncan Bowles 13 Mar 2014 - 06:29

Duncan catches up with the star of Bullet and Machete to talk about stunts, dancing, and Miss Piggy...

The last but one answer in this interview has a slight spoiler for Muppets Most Wanted.

If there’s one thing I discovered from our chat with Danny Trejo, it’s that he laughs a lot. For an actor who’s made a career out of playing bad asses whose actions speak louder than words, it was a strange thing to hear him so openly chuckling – when our call was connected I asked how he was doing and he replied “Great, we were just talking about Mel Brooks and Blazing Saddles – probably before your time, but it’s really funny!” and what followed was one of the most entertaining interviews I’ve ever done.

We were lucky enough to get a good amount of Mr Trejo’s time, »
