Thoughts I Had While Staring at the "Table 19" Poster

11 July 2016 6:50 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Manuel here. There is nothing funnier (I guess?) than a wedding, which explains why Table 19 is the latest comedy to tackle the hilarity of seeing two people profess their love to one another in as public a venue as one can imagine. I joke, though I have to admit this sub-genre has many great examples to justify its continued deployment: Father of the Bride, Bridesmaids, My Best Friend's Wedding, Muriel's Wedding, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Heck, even Wedding Crashers and The Wedding Singer have their charm.

Will Table 19 join that esteemed group? Let's take a look at its poster:

- Can we all agree this is a pitch perfect teaser poster? It gives you a sense of tone and setting with one simple image. I do wish we'd gotten fancier nail art though.

- "Don't Fit In. Take A Number" strikes me as a better tagline for »

Dermot Mulroney on His Friendship with Julia Roberts: I 'Would Push These Guys Out of the Way to Say Something Nice About Her'

5 June 2016 8:10 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

Although Julia Roberts was already on Hollywood's A-list when she auditioned for the 1997 film My Best Friend's Wedding, her costar Dermot Mulroney just thought of her as another screen partner. "First time I met her was in the audition for My Best Friend’s Wedding. To be honest with you, I’d never seen her in a movie previous to that either," Mulroney told People on Saturday at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards in Culver City, California. "But we all knew she was a star when we laid eyes on her, when she was a teenager in her first movies, »

Visual Index: Best Shots from Ghostbusters (1984)

8 March 2016 8:00 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

With the new riff on the ol' Ghostbusters property nearly upon us, what better time to look back at the original comedy smash? While the film's comic tone and dialogue are well remembered its visuals are less often discussed. The film was shot by the Hungarian cinematographer László Kovács. He logged a lot of quality time in the romantic comedy genre (What's Up Doc?, My Best Friend's Wedding, Say Anything...) but made his name in the 70s on scrappy, famous and/or ambitious pictures like Five Easy Pieces, Shampoo, New York New York, and Paper Moon.

Without further ado, let's see what the Hit Me With Your Best Shot club thought of the look of this picture and what slimy memories this revisit stirred up...

Directed by Ivan Reitman. Cinematography by László Kovács

Starring: (in order of billing) Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Sigourney Weaver,

Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, »

Billions, the Showtime Show About Billionaires, Was Picked Up for a Second Season

26 January 2016 12:58 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Showtime has picked up Billions for a second season, the network announced today. It is, after all, the the show with Showtime's highest-rated series premiere ever, at 6.5 million viewers. So, should the show be called Millions? Well, no, because it's still about billionaires. If you haven't seen the show, it has to do with wealth and corruption and white dudes in the New York City landscape of power politics and finance. The show features Carrie Mathison's former flame, Brody (a.k.a. Damian Lewis), and the bellman from My Best Friend's Wedding, Paul Giamatti. Will both be forced to stay on this show for billions and billions of years? We'll find out ... not very soon. »
