Storyline

Paris, 1900: a couple are horribly murdered by a masked man with a metal claw who rips their hearts out. The sole survivor and witness to the massacre is a young girl. Twelve years later in Rome a new wax museum is opened, whose main attractions are lifelike recreations of gruesome murder scenes. A young man bets that he will spend the night in the museum but is found dead the morning after. Soon, people start disappearing from the streets of Rome and the wax museum halls begin filling with new figures... Written by Giancarlo Cairella <vertigo@imdb.com>

Gothic horror is not dead...
1 September 2000 | by (Port Seton, Scotland) – See all my reviews

There are so many things to recommend about this movie. The storyline is an excellent reworking of two old horror classics 'The Wax Museum' & 'House of Wax', bringing a modern feel to a retro plot. The gore, as ever in Italian horror, is abundant but doesn't ruin the overall effect of the film (it was released uncut here in the UK, which was an unexpected treat). The acting is also OK (for a dubbed film). Overall it's an excellent gothic horror movie, and you don't get many of those anymore. A fitting tribute to Lucio Fulci (who was all set to direct it before his untimely death).
