New interview with Sasha Roiz and the weekend monster update

5 November 2011 9:00 PM, PDT | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.

Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.

Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:

Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):

It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality. »

Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray Review

1 November 2011 8:03 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Prior to the summer of 1993, everything in the movie world was as it had always been.

After that summer, everything was different.

The difference-maker was a simple monster movie. Yup. That's all it was - a simplistic, almost paint-by-numbers tale of ordinary people on the run from giant monsters. On the surface, that really doesn't sound like enough to get worked up about.

Then again, the name of this monster movie was Jurassic Park. And its director was Steven Spielberg.

And a monster movie is exactly what audiences were expecting when they filed into movie theaters that summer. When they emerged two hours and seven minutes later, their eyes were open to a brand new world of filmmaking.

A world in which dinosaurs and humans could share the screen; it was a world where within a few years it was conceivable that you might be able to look at a »

Review: “Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy”

29 October 2011 11:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The advent of CGI allowed anything to become a reality if you could afford it. The promise seen in Terminator 2 quickly led the big budget producers to play with the new technology and the 1990s saw a shift in storytelling as these extravaganzas grew larger. When Steven Spielberg announced he was adapting Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park for the screen, we knew this was going to be the pinnacle of an era. From the lush and note-perfect John Williams score to the familiar and welcome cast, we were in for a treat. That first establishing shot of the park and its legendary inhabitants was a jaw-dropping moment in cinema. Done right, the CGI didn’t overwhelm, but fit seamlessly to convincingly tell a story.

Unfortunately, as CGI technology became widespread and cheaper, it got used and misused with abandon. Similarly, the wild box office success of the first Jurassic film »

Exclusive: Jurassic Park Blu-ray Interviews

25 October 2011 10:49 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When Jurassic Park hit theaters in the summer of 1993, it took audiences by storm, grossing a whopping $357 million at the box office. In this day and age, that may not seem like much, but if you adjust that figure for inflation, $357 million in 1993 is the equivalent of $707 million today. There is no doubt Jurassic Park changed the face of movies and movie-making, and now the fans can finally see this classic in high-definition, the way it was made to be seen.

Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and a limited edition Blu-ray Gift Set on October 25, which includes all three movies (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III) plus hours of bonus features.

I recently had the privilege to speak with actress Ariana Richards, who portrayed Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and special effects artists Phil Tippett, »

Interviews: ‘Jurassic Park’ Visual Effects Artists & Star Ariana Richards

24 October 2011 6:27 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Set” will be available on Blu-ray beginning tomorrow, October 25th. The set will include digitally restored and remastered 7.1 surround sound versions of all three films (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III), as well as more than two hours of all-new bonus features.

Spielberg, of course, helmed the first two films and took the executive producer position on the third, which was directed by Captain America’s  Joe Johnston. However it is the original Jurassic Park which stands out as the true visual effects game-changer. At the time of its release in 1993, Jurassic Park ushered in an era in CGI where filmmakers were given the freedom and tools to believably depict purely imaginative worlds.

In preparation for the Blu-ray release we had the opportunity to speak with Ariana Richards (who played Lex in the first ...

'Jurassic Park' Cast and Crew Reflect on Acting With Giant Dinosaurs

24 October 2011 1:00 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

History will look back on 2011 as the year Blu-ray finally broke into the mainstream, owing in large part to a few of Hollywood's Holy Grails debuting on the high-definition format. The extended edition of "The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy" was the one Blu-ray set to rule them all in June, and we all felt a tremor in the Force when George Lucas finally unleashed all six "Star Wars" films on Blu-ray for the first time in September.

Now Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" as well as Joe Johnston's "Jurassic Park III" roar onto Blu-ray bundled together in the "Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy" edition being released on October 25.

It might have seemed like it took 65 million years for all three "Jurassic Park" movies to make the digital evolution to Blu-ray, but it was worth the wait, as the trilogy about »

Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson On Their Long Connection To Tintin

19 October 2011 5:48 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

To be completely honest, Steven Spielberg.s The Adventures of Tintin wasn.t moving my needle. I.m not familiar with the timeless character, who is huge overseas, and the director.s last two stabs at high-concept adventure -- The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- didn.t live up to expectations. And the idea of motion-capture still sounds better on paper than it looks on screen. Or so I thought. Then the most recent trailers, and a slew of European reviews, started singing Tintin.s praise. And now, at the very least, I.m excited. This is helping. Hitfix is hosting an exclusive featurette, with insight from Tintin producer Peter Jackson and Spielberg, both of whom are longtime fans of Herge.s Belgian comics. Universal Studios have give us this fantastic exclusive featurette to coincide with the Blu-ray release of the greatest dinosaur movie ever made, Jurassic Park. It was ground-breaking on so many levels and I’m so pleased it’s making its way to Blu-ray packed to the rafters with special features (all of which are listed below).

One of those special features is this featurette focusing on the music in Jurassic Park with the title ‘A Whole New Level’. John Williams provides the score for the film and in the featurette, all the sound effects have been stripped to let you see simply the score that plays during a few select scenes. Jurassic Park 4? Laura Dern Thinks So

10 October 2011 10:48 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Jurassic Park is currently enjoying a new lease of life and thrilling a whole new generation of moviegoers with its limited re-release. Steven Spielberg’s benchmark blockbuster looks set for another sequel according to one of its original stars Laura Dern.

The actress who appeared as Dr. Ellie Sattler, love interest and co-worker to Sam Neill’s Dr Alan Grant, has reportedly been quoted as saying the following:-

‘I hear it’s happening. I think it’s got a way to go, Steven is about to immerse himself in Lincoln. Once that’s finished… There’s always been talk that my character is deeply involved in Jurassic Park 4 somehow.

After helming Jurassic Park (1993) and it’s sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Steven Spielberg passed directing duties to Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) for what seemed like a very low key third outing in 2001.
