George Clooney will earn his stripes with the Warner Bros. family. The actor-director-producer has signed on to two high-profile projects with Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Independent Pictures.
First, Clooney is set to star in and produce White Jazz, an adaptation of a James Ellroy novel, for WIP. He then will reteam with his Ocean's Eleven producer Jerry Weintraub to direct the heist movie Belmont Boys for Warners.
Jazz, which Clooney will produce with his Smokehouse producing partner Grant Heslov, will be directed by Joe Carnahan from a script by his brother Matthew Carnahan (The Kingdom). Jazz is the last volume of what is known as Ellroy's L.A. quartet of crime novels, which includes L.A. Confidential, The Big Nowhere and The Black Dahlia.
In Jazz, Clooney will star as a corrupt police lieutenant assigned to a potentially explosive case for the Los Angeles Police Department during a time when the department is under investigation for corruption.
Patrick Cheh, Diane Nabatoff, Clark Peterson and Michelle Grace will produce the project.
Jazz is a Cherry Road co-production, with the company financing the development of the project. »
Kim Basinger will stand trial in January 2007 charged with disregarding court orders over her ex-husband Alec Baldwin's visitation rights with their daughter. The Oscar-winning actress, 52, and Baldwin, 48, agreed to share custody of 10-year-old Ireland in 2004 - four years after their divorce . Baldwin accuses his ex-wife of blocking his visitation rights and failing to notify him when Ireland was injured and needed medical treatment in 2005. Basinger pleaded innocent through her attorney Neil Hersh as she was arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday. If convicted, the LA Confidential beauty could spend up to two months in jail and receive a $12,000 fine. Court Commissioner Maren E. Nelson has set a tentative trial start date for January 15. Baldwin's lawyer Vicki Greene says her client intends to be one of the witnesses in the trial. »

The star's ex-husband Alec Baldwin instigated the proceedings by alleging that Basinger is guilty of several violations in their ongoing custody battle over 10-year-old daughter Ireland. Baldwin claims Basinger blocked his visitation rights, blocked his rights to speak with his daughter on the telephone and failed to notify him when the child suffered an injury. According to entertainment website Tmz.com, the LA Confidential star pled not guilty through her lawyer Neil Hersh. She did not appear for the arraignment. The couple divorced in 2002 and have been engaged in an ongoing battle over raising their daughter. Basinger faces 12 counts of contempt, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of $1,000. »
