All but one scene were improvised by the actors and director, working from a scene-by-scene treatment of approximately 65 pages.The one scene which was fully written with dialogue was the "bacon" scene in the diner between the two cops.
Actors Chris Haywood and Andrew S. Gilbert, who portray two detectives in this South Ausrtalian movie, earlier both appeared in another South Australian film, Sweet Talker (1991).
The film's opening prologue is a quotation from Dylan Thomas and explains the source of the film's 'Kiss or Kill' title. It read: "They dance between their arc lamps and our skull, Impose their shots, throwing the night away. We watch the show of shadows kiss or kill, Flavoured of celluloid, give love the lie. - Dylan Thomas".
