On 11th January 1991, the-then head of The Walt Disney Company's motion picture division, Jeffrey Katzenberg, sent out a memo. Running to over 10,000 words, he sent this document to key higher-ups at the studio, noting that "it is meant for internal use only". Avalos joined “Electric Company” during its second season and played multiple characters, most notably Doctor Doolots, making him one of the first Latino actors featured prominently in mainstream media. He remained a cast member on the series, acting alongside stars including Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and Bill Cosby, until the series ended in 1977.
Avalos then went on to appear in 21 episodes of the CBS hospital-based sitcom “E/R” as Dr. Thomas Esquivel and as Principal Rivas on ABC’s “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper.” Some of his other TV credits include “Jack & Bobby,” “Full House,” “Resurrection Blvd.” and “NYPD Blue.”
