Peter Weller was the film's original director and was replaced shortly after filming started because of his criticism of James G. Robinson and the film's budget (he said, "Their idea of a budget, is going to a hot dog stand.").
There is a scene in the film where Harry Donovan finds out about the death of his father (played by Rod Steiger) from heart failure in a newspaper clipping. The date of death given was Tuesday, July 9. Rod Steiger died five years later on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 of pneumonia and kidney failure.
When Marieke mails the letter, there is a very short close up where you can read the address of Juan del Campo, meaning "John of the Field", living in Plaza de la Mierda, meaning "Shit Square".
