Sundance 2012: Kid-thing leaves destruction in her wake (stills)

12 December 2011 2:34 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

One of the ways I pick films is by intuition and my spidey sense tingled when I read about this one. Made by the Zellner Brothers, who also incidentally live in Colorado like me, the story revolves around a rebellious girl who spends her time roaming the land, leaving destruction in her wake. While we don't have much other then a few indeterminate stills, there is a longer synopsis following. I'm hoping for something like Harmony Korine's Gummo. Kid-Thing is premiering in the Sundance Next program which caters to the more avant-garde, or if you like, experimental.

Selena Gomez Is A Spring Breaker

8 December 2011 4:01 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

You're the star of a Disney Channel series, with a bit of a pop career on the side, and a boyfriend called Justin Bieber. So what's your next project? Why, a film by the director of Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy and Trash Humpers, of course. Selena Gomez has just joined Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers. That sound you can hear is Uncle Walt spinning in his cryo-chamber.Spring Breakers does actually sound unusually mainstream for Korine, although given that his last film involved masked octogenarian tramps having sex with dustbins, it's all relative. This one's about four college girls cutting loose and funding their spring break by robbing a restaurant. When they're arrested and jailed, they then find themselves entangled with the drug-runner who bailed them out, and who wants them to whack his main competitor.James Franco is already attached to play the dope dealer, and Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts »

Selena Gomez To Degrade Herself For Harmony Korine in ‘Spring Breakers’

7 December 2011 3:43 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The newest development in Selena Gomez’s career is by far the most insane. According to MTV, she’s going to be working with director Harmony Korine on his next film Spring Breakers. If you don’t know who Gomez is, she’s the sugary sweet teen idol best known either for coming out of the Disney factory of loud-talking and sassy tween actors or for dating a twelve-year-old kid named Justin Bieber. If you don’t know who Harmony Korine is, he’s the certifiable weirdo who’s responsible for directing movies like Gummo and Julian Donkey Boy, films that could be described as shock fodder at best, and pure exploitation at worst. Korine is always digging into the darkest facets of the human psyche and them gleefully shining a spotlight on the sick behavior that he finds. So, you know, this is pretty much a match made in heaven. Spring Breakers »

Selena Gomez to star in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers

7 December 2011 9:24 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Nineteen-year-old Disney actor, pop star and girlfriend of Justin Bieber has been cast in a gritty drama from the Gummo director

Selena Gomez has been cast in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers, an indie drama about a gang of female college students who rob a restaurant to fund their holiday.

Gomez, who will star alongside James Franco, Emma Roberts and Vanessa Hudgens in the Gummo director's new film, compared the role to her past work by saying it was "raw and more about acting". "It's a different kind of vibe than people are used to seeing me in," she told MTV.com. The 19-year-old actor, who has also developed a music career with her pop band Selena Gomez & the Scene, came to prominence after starring in the Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place. She has previously stuck to wholesome family films like Monte Carlo and 2010's Ramona and Beezus, based on the popular children's book. »

Chloe Has The Bunny Ears

The bicycles are sitting in my storage unit, but Chloe Sevigny kept a key piece of costumery from Gummo: the rabbit ears she made for the Bunny Boy character. (Sevigny not only co-starred in the movie, she was also its costume designer.) She explains in this video released by Opening Ceremony tied to the launch of her third collection for the fashion house. (Ht: Portable TV.)

Springbreak with Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts?

Springbreak with Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts?

Who Doesn’T want to go on spring break with lovely celebs like Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts? Then toss in a little James Franco? Yes, you heard me. If you’re a fan, then get a load of this unusual movie casting scoop.

Harmony Korine wrote Kids, which premiered back in 1995. the picture was super controversial. It centered around a gaggle of sexually active teens in New York City. His other films, such as Gummo, Mister Lonely, and Trash Humpers only solidify the man’s reputation as an “indie film provocateur”. For that reason, it has been unlikely, until now, that you would breath the name Harmony Korine and Disney at the same time.

What has changed? Well, he is hard at work on an upcoming film called Springbreakers. It will follow four college-age gals who decide it »

Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers has James Franco as Alien

2 November 2011 10:10 AM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

James Franco is already familiar with kicking verse having played Ginsberg in Howl and in Harmony Korine's next, he'll be using that skill again as a rapping drug and arms dealer named Alien. This character name is the only hint of Korine's signature queerness in the film he will both write and direct about four college girls who rob a restaurant to afford their trip to the beach. He's also in talks with starlets Emma Roberts, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez and there's a mention of this being a risque path for all of them, but who cares. Look what he did for Chloë Sevigny. If only this will end up a masterpiece like the cat genocide favorite Gummo instead of the horribly pretentious waste of time Trash Humpers.

Franco, Hudgens and Gomez are Spring Breakers

2 November 2011 9:06 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Emma Roberts are all in talks to star in Harmony Korine’s fourth feature length project, Spring Breakers.  The film follows four college girls who rob a fast food restaurant to fund their spring break and upon arriving in Floria, are immediately arrested.

Roberts (Scream 4) is set to appear as Candy, with tween stars Hudgens and Gomez in yet unnamed roles. The fourth member of their group is yet to be cast. James Franco, in another bizarre role to add to his resume, will play Alien, a ‘rapping drug and arms dealer’ who crosses paths with the young women.

Despite the family friend casting choices (Hudgens and Gomez starred in High School Musical and The Wizards Of Waverly Place respectively), Spring Breakers is unlikely to be easy watching. The film is written and directed by Korine, whose debut Gummo followed ‘Lonely residents »

Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Emma Roberts in talks to join James Franco in Harmony Korine's 'Spring Breakers'

1 November 2011 6:55 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

There are many things one could say about indie film provocateur Harmony Korine (Gummo, Mister Lonely, Trash Humpers), but “Disney Channel director” is hardly one of them. And yet EW has confirmed that Selena Gomez (of Disney’s The Wizards of Waverly Place) and Vanessa Hudgens (of Disney’s High School Musical), along with Emma Roberts (of Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous), are all in talks to join Korine’s next film as a writer-director, Spring Breakers, about a quartet of college co-eds who hold up a restaurant so they can make it to Florida for their spring vacation.

James Franco Set to Corrupt 'Spring Breakers'

1 November 2011 6:46 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Anyone would be lucky to spend spring break with James Franco.

And writer-director Harmony Korine is one lucky fella, as he's lured the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" star to his latest bit of cinematic madness, "Spring Breakers," according to Variety.

"Spring Breakers" follows a group of college girls who rob a restaurant in order to afford their road trip to the beach. Franco is set to play a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails them out of jail and entices them to kill his arch-rival.

Emma Roberts ("Scream 4"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Sucker Punch") and Selena Gomez ("The Muppets") are currently in talks to play the novice criminals. Roberts would be playing a Southern hellraiser who feeds off of danger, while Gomez would be a playing a shy religious girl who isn't into all of this thrill-seeking. Hudgens would be playing... well, guess we'll just have to wait and see. »

Selena Gomez in talks to star with James Franco in unconventional new film

In some of the most bizarre casting news of this or any other day (not to mention year), James Franco has been cast in "Spring Breakers", a new independent film written and directed by controversial filmmaker Harmony Korine ("Gummo", "Trash Humpers"). But that's not the weird part (we expect these kinds of things from controversy-magnet Franco by now). No, see, the weird part is that freshly-scrubbed teen stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts are also in talks to appear in the film, which, if you're familiar with Korine's work, would mark a severe turning point for the three young »

James Franco Joins Harmony Korine’s ‘Spring Breakers;’ Emma Roberts May Sign On, Too

1 November 2011 5:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

From anyone but Harmony Korine, known for scripting Kids and directing Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy, and Trash Humpers, the plot for Spring Breakers would sound like a wild piece of material. For Korine, it almost sounds like a family film. The story follows four late-teen girls who rob a restaurant in order to finance a spring break trip, and end up enlisted to kill the rival of their drug dealer. Now Emma Roberts is in talks to play one of the four girls, and James Franco is attached to play the dealer. Variety [1] describes the plot: [Spring Breakers] follows four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival... Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer, bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch. I can see this turning into quite a scary piece of work, »

Greatest Horror Movies Ever Made Part 7: The 62 Greatest (# 62-32)

29 October 2011 2:30 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Choosing my favourite horror films of all time is like choosing between my children – not that I have children, but if I did, I am sure I would categorize them quite like my DVD collection. As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. Also, it was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried. I based my list taking into consideration three points:

1- Technical accomplishments / artistry and their influence on the genre.

2- How many times I’ve revisited the films and how easily it makes for a repeated viewings.

3- Its story, atmosphere and how much it affected me when I first watched them.

Finally, there are many great films such as The Witchfinder General, The Wickerman and even Hour Of The Wolf that won’t appear here. I »

Greatest Horror Movies Ever Made Part 7: 50 Greatest Horror Films (# 50-16)

27 October 2011 7:31 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

42 – Nosferatu: The First Vampire

Directed by F.W. Murnau

1922 – Germany

The earliest surviving film based on Dracula is Nosferatu, an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel. One of the first vampire movies, it is perhaps on one of the best vampire movies ever made. Generally creepy from beginning to the last frame.

41- Spirits Of The Dead (Histoires extraordinaires)

Directed by

Federico Fellini (segment Toby Dammit)

Louis Malle (segment William Wilson)

Roger Vadim (segment Metzengerstein)

1968 – France

First thing to notice is the three directors: Federico Fellini, Louis Malle and Roger Vadim. Second you need to take notice in the cast which includes Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Alain Delon, Terence Stamp, Salvo Randone, James Robertson Justice, Françoise Prévost and Marlène Alexandre. Spirits Of The Dead is an adaptation of three Edgar Allan Poe stories that amount to one mixed bad, but with one incredible segment that needs to be seen. »

See the Exclusive Posters for Harmony Korine’s Proenza Schouler Collaboration ‘Snowballs’

23 September 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Harmony Korine has built up quite a reputation as a polarizing cult filmmaker (writer of Kids, writer/director of Gummo, Mister Lonely, Trash Humpers), but that hasn't stopped him from doing quite well for himself in the relatively safe world of commercials. Among his past high-profile clients are Budweiser, Liberty Mutual, and Axe. His latest commercial effort sees him teaming up with high-end fashion line Proenza Schouler for a four-minute short titled Snowballs, featuring the brand's Southwestern-flavored Fall 2011 collection. Although Snowballs won't drop til next week, we've got an exclusive look at two posters for the film that suggest something artsy, colorful, and hopefully a little twisted. Check 'em out after the jump. [gallery columns="2" orderby="title" exclude="112515"] The new collaboration marks the second time Korine has worked with the brand. Last year, he created a short Super 8 film titled Act da Fool to promote Proenza Schouler's fall 2010 line. Watch it below: Though Korine hasn't »

Grolsch Film Works have sent over this rather interesting press release and a couple of behind the scenes images from the film of their brand new feature film along with announcing three new directors who have signed up to come on board. These three directors are Harmony Korine, Jan Kwiecinski and Alexei Fedorchenko with each director filming a 30 minute short film in their own country of America, Russia and Poland.

Each Director worked from the same brief which Grolsch Film Works have shared with us:

“The (Filmic) Fourth Dimension”

Creative Brief

Written by Eddy Moretti

Dear Director from another land, here are your instructions…

This film must be the best film you have ever made.

It should blur the line between what is real and what is fake.

We need to be shown things we have never been shown before.
