Movie Review – Jason Bourne (2016)

26 July 2016 12:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Jason Bourne, 2016.

Directed by Paul Greengrass.

Starring Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, Ato Essandoh, Riz Ahmed and Scott Shepherd.

Synopsis:

Jason Bourne, now remembering who he truly is, tries to uncover hidden truths about his past.

And like that, we find ourselves being beaten to a bloody pulp once more by chiseled anti-hero Jason Bourne. Nine years after his last punchy outing, sentient beef cake Matt Damon returns, literally punching his way across Europe. Now remembering his true identity, Bourne finds himself back in and amidst the sinister government programmes he so desperately tried to escape. All this as CIA Director Robert Dewey (played with a level of growl only Tommy Lee Jones can achieve) and Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander) attempt to track him down.

Unlike many a blockbuster director, Paul Greengrass, an adept documentarian – seems to encourage physicality; fight sequences look convincingly bruising, »

Matt Damon talks returning to the role of Jason BourneMatt Damon talks returning to the role of Jason BourneColin Covert7/25/2016 3:18:00 Pm

"Why would he come back now?”

So asks Tommy Lee Jones’ stern CIA chief about the surprise return of Jason Bourne, the tough-as-nails rogue field agent played by Matt Damon. After three films where the fugitive agent couldn’t be intercepted, followed by a decade spent off the grid (and movie screens), he’s back for the aptly titled Jason Bourne.

Why would he come back now? Damon, director Paul Greengrass, Universal Studios and a huge fanbase simply wanted to see Bourne born again.

Before Damon played Jason Bourne in director Doug Liman’s 2002 franchise kickoff The Bourne Identity, his career largely consisted of sensitive dramatic parts or supporting comic roles. Few of them showcased the Oscar-winning skills he displayed as co-writer and star of 1997’s Good Will Hunting. »

Matt Damon's Touching Story About What It Was Like to Work With Robin Williams Will Break Your Heart All Over Again

20 July 2016 11:50 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Matt Damon waded into the sometimes perilous waters of Reddit on Wednesday to engage in one of the site's much-loved "Ask Me Anything" discussions to promote his latest movie, Jason Bourne. Although he touched on what it's really like to play the titular super spy (there's a lot of being upside down underwater in cars, apparently), the actor's most interesting answer wasn't about the Bourne franchise at all. Instead, Matt shared a touching anecdote about his time on set with the late Robin Williams while filming his breakout role in 1997's Good Will Hunting: "Working with Robin almost defies description. He was one of the most generous, loving, wonderful people I've ever met. He had this capacity that I've never seen on a movie set. When everyone started to get tired and started to flag a little bit, he would launch into standup. We knew it was original because »

Will Matt Damon Join Ben Affleck's Batman Movie?

12 July 2016 4:12 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Will Matt Damon join Ben Affleck in the upcoming Batman Reboot? The actor is currently out making the rounds for his latest movie Jason Bourne. He has reunited with director Paul Greengrass for the fifth installment of that franchise, which is a pretty big deal. Inevitably, the subject of playing a superhero came up. And apparently Damon is not opposed to the idea, as long as his friend and Good Will Hunting partner is behind it.

Matt Damon was speaking with JoBlo during the course of his press tour, and revealed that he is actually open to playing a superhero. It just has to be under the right circumstances. Those circumstances just so happen to include his Bff Ben Affleck. Who just happens to be directing a new standalone Batman movie that he will star in and co-write. Here is what he had to say.

"I'd consider anything with the right director, »

Damon Expects Bourne Series To Go The James Bond Route In Future, Talks Recasting Role

11 July 2016 8:38 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I'll never forget seeing the first trailer for The Bourne Identity. It was 2001 and, up until that point, Damon had acquitted himself quite nicely as a dramatic actor-writer in high-minded productions like Good Will HuntingSaving Private RyanThe Talented Mr. Ripley, and The Legend Of Bagger Vance. He and pal Ben Affleck crossed over into the A-list at the same time, thanks to their work as writers/actors in 1996's Good Will Hunting, but they seemingly split after that. Damon went serious, and Affleck went big. While Damon worked on the kinds of films mentioned above, Affleck ran around making bombastic blockbusters like Armageddon, Reindeer Games, and Pearl Harbor.

So the idea, as a follower of films, was that- of the two of them- Damon was more of the thoughtful artiste, while Affleck was more the celebrity movie star.

That's what made the debut trailer for The Bourne Identity so attention-grabbing. »

Top 5 Matt Damon Roles

14 June 2016 8:00 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

We’ve been fans of Matt Damon since the beginning, when he was a fresh-faced kid from Boston with a killer instinct for acting. Now he’s won an Oscar, and he's been nominated three more times since.

Damon started off by doing dramatic roles that put him on the map: Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan… movies of that ilk. He quickly established himself as one of the most appealing leading men in Hollywood, and became involved in such iconic projects as Ocean’s Eleven and The Bourne Identity.

There are few other actors in the business that can be relied upon to turn out crowd-pleaser after crowd-pleaser like Matt Damon. It looks like his good-luck streak will continue this month with Jason Bourne, the fifth Bourne film in the series and Damon’s fourth time portraying the amnesiac special agent.

We’ve rounded up five of our favourite Matt Damon roles in time for Jason Bourne, and we think we’ve got all the essentials covered. Check out the list below and catch Jason Bourne in Cineplex theatres July 29th.

Watch: Matt Damon Returns to MIT to Give 2016 Commencement Speech

3 June 2016 11:33 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Nearly 20 years after Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon has returned to MIT aka Massachusetts Institute of Technology (although, to be fair, much of Gus Van Sant‘s film was shot at the University of Toronto). Rather than a mop in hand, the actor has given a commencement address to this year’s graduating class in which he touched on everything from villainous bankers to Donald Trump to his Hollywood experience.

This world has some problems that we need you to drop everything and solve,” he said. “So go ahead and take your pick from the world’s worst buffet: economic inequality, how about the refugee crisis, massive global insecurity, climate change, pandemics, institutional racism, nativism, fear-driven brains working overtime.”

Check out his full speech below and see Steven Spielberg‘s recent Harvard speech here. We’ve also included a deleted scene from The Martian, which will get an extended edition release next week. »
