Jessica Lange and Shirley MacLaine Take an Unexpected Vacation in Trailer for ‘Wild Oats’

29 August 2016 1:48 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Screen legends Jessica Lange and Shirley MacLaine have teamed for the new comedy Wild Oats, which was shot two years ago and now will finally be arriving in theaters next month. Directed by Andy Tennant (Hitch, Fools Rush In), the story follows a woman who gets a life insurance check for $5,000,000 instead of $50,000, so she takes an unexpected vacation to Canary Islands with her friend.

Also starring Demi Moore, Billy Connolly and Alan Arkin, if you enjoy often the often under-represented geriatric comedy genre, Wild Oats looks to fit the bill. This one got the Grace of Monaco treatment from The Weinstein Company, premiering on Lifetime last week before a theatrical release next month. While they still have yet to officially release a trailer, one popped up on the international circuit. Check it out below, along with the poster.

Wild Oats Poster & Trailer

Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange are in a movie together. It's called Wild Oats and it was directed by Andy Tennant of Fools Rush In and Sweet Home Alabama fame. You can see why this news is vexing. We should be thrilled about seeing MacLaine and Lange together (in a comedy no less!) but it might not be a great addition to this growing "Old dames having a ball!" genre that's become a staple of late.

The film, which follows the two Oscar winning actresses "newly rich" (given a banking error in one's husband's insurance policy), "newly single" (see above), and "forever young" (they're timeless, these glittering movie stars) looks to be a tad more Hello My Name is Doris than I'll See You In My Dreams, with a whiff of The Exotic Marigold Hotel. Oh, and did I mention it co-stars Demi Moore

Movie Review: The Conjuring 2

10 June 2016 9:24 AM, PDT | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

The Conjuring benefited from some decent scares, character development and relating the Perron family to the audience while dealing with the Warrens. Add in a pretty terrifying and effective basement exorcism scene and you have a pretty damn successful horror film. I’ll put it this way, it’s in my Blu-Ray collection. Director James Wan definitely showed off his chops by doing a balancing acts within the film with all the characters and creating a genuinely creepy film and that is to be commended. I don’t think that there is any doubt that Wan is int he top-tier of Horror film directors.

One of the benefits of creating a film about Lorraine and Ed Warren who were true-life paranormal investigators is that there was plenty of cases to choose from. Two of their most popular cases end up being in The Conjuring 2 – The Amityville house in Amityville, »
