Anna and her husband Jean-Paul have to face a long and difficult separation since Jean-Paul is a spationaut. Thanks to a video device they can see each other and communicate... But definitely not for the best!

The astronaut's wife
23 August 2011 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

A French comedy that showed some promise because of the ingredients that went into it. Unfortunately, this is a film that tried to imitate a Hollywood formula that did not pan out. Jacques Monnet, the director does not bring anything new into the formula. The problem can be traced to the weak screenplay Mr. Monnet helped write with Pierre Salvadori and Alain Godard. It feels false and empty.

Part of the enjoyment of watching any film is the interaction between the actors. In this film, the cosmonaut, Jean Paul, is always seen on a television screen that is connected to his own living room. His wife, Anna, has had it with him and with the transmission that interferes with her own life and that of her children. It is a predictable story that offers no real entertainment.

It is a shame though, because Victoria Abril and Gerard Lanvin, the stars deserved much better. Rossy DePalma, who has worked in other Spanish films has nothing to do with her Catherine, Anna's best friend. Other faces in supporting roles include the great Philippe Magnan who has nothing to do.
