Face Jewelry: From the Relics to the Runway

16 March 2015 2:53 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

At one point, facial jewelry was a symbol of anti-establishment street culture, and at others, a sign of avant-garde beauty. In some cultures, face jewelry may be a way to honor a goddess, and in others, a way to rebel. Recently, face jewelry even made headlines at Paris Fashion Week as one of the show-stopping beauty looks of the season. Whether you love or hate it, one thing is for sure: Face bling has been and will be around for a very long time.  Trends: The evolution of the high low dress 1970s-1980s The Sex Pistols, the Ramones, The Clash—it was the age of punk-rock and sticking it to the man. The best way, of course, was to dress with extremely unconventional style: dyed hair, »

Hyena review

5 March 2015 6:15 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Hyena is a gritty, brutal crime drama, but sadly, not one that really works.

Gerald Johnson's London crime drama Hyena stretches the definition of 'good copper' by some distance. Our anti-hero, Michael Logan, is not morally upstanding as much as he is competent and the film is open about that from the very beginning.

Michael (Peter Ferdinando) is the corrupt, substance abusing leader of a corrupt, substance abusing task force in a corrupt, mostly substance abusing Met. After he sees a contact murdered in front of him by a pair of Albanian brothers called the Kabashis, (Orli Shuka and Gjevat Kelmendi) who have designs on the London drug trade, his chickens all come home to roost at once.

Aside from being reassigned to the command of former partner David Knight (Stephen Graham) and having Internal Affairs' Taylor (Richard Dormer) breathing down his neck, Michael realises that the Albanians are also trafficking people, »

Taken 3 review

8 January 2015 8:51 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Bryan Mills' eternal cycle of strained family relations, kidnapping and revenge continues with Taken 3. Here's our review...

Bryan Mills, Liam Neeson's ex-cia action hero with the particular set of skills, appears to occupy the same circle of hell once inhabited by the Death Wish franchise's Paul Kersey. In each Taken film, Bryan's quiet, cosy life is repeatedly spun into chaos by stubbled, scar-faced foreign villains, who kidnap his womenfolk and force him to go on a bloody rampage of neck-breakings, discharged firearms and torture.

Like the heads on a hydra, those scar-faced foreign villains keep coming back as fast as Bryan can snap their necks or shoot their wild-eyed faces, so that the cycle of kidnapping, retrieval and death goes on and on, seemingly without end.

Taken 3 presents a new rotation in Bryan's increasingly dismal cycle. Terrifyingly, time seems to have moved on for everyone except Bryan »
