The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series

Blu-Ray Review
G-Force
Directed by: Hoyt Yeatman
Cast: Sam Rockwell, Penelope Cruz, Tracy Morgan, Nicolas Cage, Jon Favreau, Bill Nighy, Zach Galifianakis
Running Time: 1 hr 25 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: December 15, 2009
Plot: Four guinea pigs and a mole (collectively known as G-Force) work together to stop a Skynet-like networking orchestrated by a billionaire named Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy).
Who’S It For?: Easily amused children and their generous parents who can be impressed by computer graphic imagery. Fans of Zach Galifianakis will just be sad.
Movie:
The writing is more concerned with concocting dated one-liners than it is in crafting clever action sequences (which yes, is possible even when guinea pigs are the main characters). The moments that might keep viewers interested are the ones that display a severe dedication and scope to a movie about guinea pigs as superspies – because the animation is so damn elaborate, not because

Is acting art? Nicolas Cage and Morgan Freeman sound off

Art or not art? That is the question that Nicolas Cage, Colin Firth, Morgan Freeman, Stanley Tucci, Christoph Waltz, and Peter Sarsgaard ponder in the highly amusing video below, part 1 in a series from The Hollywood Reporter. As soon as the matter is raised (off-screen, presumably by the reporter moderating the roundtable), Cage bristles a bit. "What is it with the word art? Define art," he says to Firth who, in turn, gives a perfectly reasonable response about the subjectivity of the word.
It's not that big of a shocker that Cage, an actor known for the eccentric passion with

Released today is the brand new trailer for Disney's upcoming release The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The trailer debuted on iTunes and was sent to some media outlets today for viewing. Sorcerer's Apprentice doesn't open until July 16th, 2010 as it will be apart of the Summer blockbuster season. However, Disney is very proud the film and creating some early buzz is a staple for these big budget flicks. Below is a synopsis, a few production notes and the trailer.
Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness.

The former girlfriend of Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage is suing him and his former accountant for fraud and breach of contract, demanding 13 million dollars and a home he promised her.Attorneys representing Christina Fulton, a former actress and the mother of Cage's 18-year-old son Weston, told Afp she had filed a lawsuit Tuesday claiming the actor's series of financial problems had resulted in foreclosure of the house.Fulton, 42, is also claiming that she racked up debt owed to the Us tax collection agency -- the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) -- due to "negligence, concealment and misrepresentation" on the part of Cage's former business manager, Samuel Levin. The "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Con Air" star's agent declined to comment.Fulton said she believed the Los Angeles home where she lived with her son was under her name, until Cage allegedly served her an eviction notice in September.

The Sorcerer’S Apprentice Trailer - Updated

The first trailer for Walt Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has been released. This is the Jon Turteltaub directed (National Treasure, National Treasure: Book of Secrets) adventure/comedy starring Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, and Monica Bellucci.
While I’m a big fan of producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s movies that star Nicolas Cage (The Rock, Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds, National Treasure), the trailer makes me quite nervous. Everything from the music to the not very good CGI left me less than impressed and the film looks like it aims very young. Saying that, if I were a twelve year old and hadn’t seen a lot of movies, maybe this trailer would excite me. Judge for yourself after the jump.
Update: Disney has provided us with three images from the film. They’re below the trailer.
Here’s the synopsis:
Dave (Jay Baruchel) is just an average college student,

Spider-Man 4 begins shooting in March next year. Casting rumours have been flying all over the place – and now Movieline are spreading a rumour that John “Malcatraz” Malkovich is being wooed to play the main villain, The Vulture.
But there’s more! Anne Hathaway is also rumoured to have bagged the role of Felicia Hardy, but not as The Black Cat. Sam Raimi and co-writer Gary Ross have created a new character – The Vulturess. There were studio fears The Black Cat might be seen as too much like Catwoman. Will Malkovich and Hathaway be a new dynamic evil duo? It is an interesting idea, to say the least.
Raimi originally earmarked John Malkovich to play the Green Goblin back in 2002, but for various reasons, he didn’t take up the role. Willem Dafoe grabbed it and made it all his own. It seems Raimi is a patient man and, quite frankly,

Hathaway And Malkovich Are Vultures?

If there’s one thing John Malkovich does well – does really well – it’s give good villain. This, after all, is the man who was Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Grissom in Con Air, and the chameleonic assassin Booth in In The Line Of Fire. And who can forget his spine-chilling turn as Pascal Sauvage, the Greedy Frenchman in the epoch-making comedy, Johnny English?Yep, nobody does a nice line in on-screen evil quite like Malcatraz, and that’s something Sam Raimi knows all too well. After all, Raimi offered Malkovich the role of the Green Goblin in Spider-Man waaaaaaay back in 2001. For whatever reason – he was booked up, he didn’t like the script, he didn’t like the costume – Malkovich passed on the role, leaving it to Willem Dafoe to snap it up and try desperately to act while stranded in a completely expressionless helmet roughly the size of a small fridge.

Weekly Poll Results: Best Nicolas Cage Movie

Plenty of votes were cast in last week's poll, but in the end, The Coen Brothers' Raising Arizona was chosen as Nicolas Cage's finest film to date, followed closely by Spike Jonze's Adaptation. A ways behind those two films, Face/Off was a bit of a surprise at #3, while Leaving Las Vegas and Lord of War rounded out the top 5. All in all, the votes were spread around quite a bit, and various suggestions of additional films like Wild at Heart, Vampire's Kiss and Bringing Out the Dead make it clear that, contrary to popular belief, the man actually has a decent array of respected flicks under his belt. Do you agree with these results? Where would Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans rank in the list?
1. Raising Arizona -- 24%
2. Adaptation -- 21.4%
3. Face/Off -- 10.1%
4. Leaving Las Vegas -- 9.4%
5. Lord of War -- 8.3%
6. The Rock -- 8.1%
7. Matchstick Men

6 Actors That Should Probably Not Watch Their Own Movies

When I interviewed Bill Nighy last year, three things seemed to stand out about the man. One, he shakes hands with only the front part of three fingers like I have to imagine witches do. Two, he had a greater sense of humor about himself than anyone else I've ever met. Three, he was insanely, effortlessly cool.
He continues to exude both coolness and the self-effacing grace that makes him such a charismatic personality (aside from the willingness to star in serious work and movies about werewolves fighting vampires) by claiming that he can't stand the experience of watching movies that he's in. He, like most actors who have thrown out that claim in the past, seems completely put off by seeing himself on screen. Hardly an original claim, but one that rings true for anyone who has ever seen a bad photo of themselves (be they regional theater actors or international film stars).
So I decided

The Con Air star toured the Shimo La Tewa jail in the coastal town of Mombasa on Tuesday and met inmates at the facility.
Cage, a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador on Drugs and Crime, told The Associated Press Television News he wanted to meet the prisoners in a bid to understand what is fuelling piracy off the Somali coast.
He adds, "I'm in a position where I can actually make some sense and talk about it when I go back to the States, where I go talk to different Un councils and discuss the matter."

Samuel J. Levin – who was branded “incompetent” by the actor over his financial advice, which Nicolas claimed has led him towards financial ruin – insists the ‘Con Air’ star was already in deep debt when he hired him in 2001.
In the complaint filed last week, Levin insisted Cage refused to listen to his advice, resulting in him having an unpaid tax bill believed to be around $6 million.
He said: “From the start of our Business Management Agreement he knew about his perilous financial situation and he knew he was behind on paying his taxes.”
The business manager claims he “warned” the actor he needed to earn a minimum of $30 million a year to support his lavish lifestyle and agreed a string of financial objectives which included selling “more than a dozen” of his cars and his $1.6 million comic book collection.
However, following a “string of hit films”, the 45-year-old actor started

The 46-year-old star – who plays the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in the movie franchise – is returning for the fourth installment and is set to become Hollywood’s highest-paid actor, topping the likes of Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and Tom Hanks, with the huge pay day.
The ‘Sleepy Hollow’ actor is guaranteed the £21 million as a minimum for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’, due for release in the 2011, and could receive even more should it be a huge box-office hit.
Disney bosses are paying Depp such a high fee because his co-stars from the previous three movies, Keira Knightley, 24, and 32-year-old Orlando Bloom, have dropped out.
Geoffrey Rush will once again play Captain Barbossa, while Penelope Cruz is rumoured to be in line to take the female lead.
Depp recently vowed to save Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage from financial ruin after because of a massive unpaid tax bill.

To further prove that people with lots of money still care about people who used to have lots of money, The Daily Express reports that Johnny Depp may help bail actor Nicolas Cage out of his growing financial problems. Cage, as you may or may not know, is in some serious debt. He's already had two of his homes go into foreclosure, he owes something like $6 million in back taxes and he's currently suing his former business manager for $20 million claiming he sent "him down a path toward financial ruin."
Now, though, things may be looking up for Cage as Depp could be coming to his rescue. The Daily Express says that Depp has contacted Cage and told him not to worry, that he'll sort everything out. Why Depp, you ask? Isn't that sorta random? What, was Depp a big fan of Con Air or something? Actually, no -- Depp
