Storyline

When Casper failed to show up at the Ghost Central Station, he instead finds himself in the world of the living where he befriends a young boy name Chris Carson, a 10 year old, who loves ghosts and the supernatural and has a workaholic father: Tim Carson who spends little time with his son as he attempts to tear down an old mansion to update the town. Casper also meets with the Ghostly Trio where they along with Chris are willing to help Casper become a better ghost. Meanwhile, a monstrous ghoul: Kibosh, who is head of the Ghost Central, discovers of Casper's absence, sent out his assistant: Snivel to find Casper and bring him back at once.

Empty-headed tat

The signs for this direct-to-video prequel aren't good, as it a) exists, and b) opens with a crappy title song and CGI ghost train sequence, but it doesn't really matter as the rest of the movie isn't any good either. This is a pretty desperate case of creative bankruptcy and it doesn't do itself any favours with its sloppy direction, tacky scripting and half-assed performances.

Steve Guttenberg is the workaholic dad with no time for his bullied son (off the shelf plot B-52X) who wants to tear down an old house to make room for a mini mall (off the shelf plot D-92B). Not only is a bunch of protesters opposed to the demolition, but the house is occupied by ghosts - Casper and his uncles. Much hilarity fails to ensue.

This yawn-inducing caper is a charmless, pointless and hopeless ninety minutes of dusty ideas and cut-price CG effects with Casper reduced to a subplot and too many boring stories floating about, none of which are remotely interesting. Michael McKean brightens things up a bit as a nutty demolitions expert, so thank god for him.
