Eddie Adams would have been just another high-school drop-out had he not met the likes of adult film director Jack Horner. Horner transforms Eddie into Dirk Diggler, a rising-star actor with a special gift. Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the film is a tribute to the decor, style, culture, and social attitudes of the era. Written by
Although Amber Waves' actual name is never stated in the film, it's clear that her real first name is Maggie. During the party scene, Amber's young son, whom her ex-husband has forbidden her to have contact with due to her work in porn and drug use, calls her house asking for her. Maurice Rodriguez tries to find her, but can't because he and the people he asks at the party don't know that Maggie and Amber are the same person. Her ex-husband later calls her as Maggie during their custody hearing. See more »
When the three guys discuss a drug deal with Rahad (set in at least 1984, based on the songs "Sister Christian" and "99 Luftballons" from that year), the audio mix tape runs out the moment the song currently playing reaches its climax, before reverse-side playback. A close-up shows a Maxell 'clear style' tape, not an early-80's style. See more »

I rented Boogie Nights last week and I could tell you, when I watched the film I had a blast. If you think that when you watch the film you will get sicked by the porn. I mean yes, if your not a porn person who can't bother being by it, than this isn't the film to see. But the thing is, the whole film isn't really about porn. Well halfway through the film is about the porn industry but the other half is about the character development and the bad situations these characters go through. The actors played there roles perfect, especially Mark Wahlberg, John C. Reilly, and William H. Macy. The sex scenes, of course are terrific but mainly focus on the character's hype in porn films until there struggles. Excellent film, one of the best!
