27 December 2012 11:00 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

It's inevitable that as time goes by, we will lose some of our favorite stars. And yet, year after year, it never gets any easier to look back on the great entertainers who had died over the previous 12 months.

Still, it's important to remember the legacies of the people who enhanced our own lives over the years with their talent, style and love of cinema. Here's a look at some of the many wonderful Hollywood talents who passed away in 2012.

Whitney Houston

One of the most successful, beloved and influential pop stars of the last quarter century, Whitney Houston also became a Hollywood power in the '90s thanks to her roles in blockbusters like "The Bodyguard" and "The Preacher's Wife." Though she had her very public ups and downs over the past decade, Houston was in the process of making a career comeback on the big screen with the musical "Sparkle. »

New Trailer for I Give It A Year with Rafe Spall, Rose Byrne, Anna Faris & Stephen Merchant

19 December 2012 8:00 AM, PST | | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Due out in February 2013, I Give It A Year is one of the most promising romantic comedies to be produced in Britain in years.

We saw an excellent first trailer last month, and with its release date fast approach in the UK and Ireland, StudioCanal have released another great second trailer, giving us a look at what promises to be one of the best British films of 2013.

“Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer ..but the spark between them is undeniable.

Their wedding is a dream come true, but family, friend and even the minister who marries them aren’t convinced that they can last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Baker), could offer attractive alternatives.

Dirty Harry, The Matrix, Slacker, Two-lane Blacktop, and More Added to National Film Registry

19 December 2012 7:34 AM, PST | | See recent news »

Every year, The National Film Preservation Board selects 25 films to be added to the National Film Registry.  These movies will be housed in the Library of Congress, and will be carefully preserved as part of American history.  This year, the Board's selections included Dirty Harry, The Matrix, Two-Lane Blacktop, Slacker, The Spook Who Sat By the Door, A Christmas Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and A League of Their Own.  Personally, I'm surprised The Big Lebowski and Die Hard still haven't made it in, especially when a movie like A League of Their Own can make it in.  I love A League of Their Own, but it hasn't had anywhere near the cultural impact as Lebowski or Die Hard. Hit the jump for the full list of films.  If you want to know more about the National Film Registry, you should check out the documentary These Amazing Shadows.  Click here to read my review. »

Amanda Seyfried Set to Top Erotic ‘Chloe’ in New Film ‘Lovelace’ (video)

15 December 2012 4:24 PM, PST | | See recent news »

Amanda Seyfried will return to on-screen nudity in her upcoming bio-pic “Lovelace.” She’s more experienced than young Hollywood contemporaries thanks to her 2009 role in the movie “Chloe.” A look back at that film shows her at her erotic best. She worked opposite Julianne Moore, who is a veteran of nude scenes in a number of movies, including “The End of the Affair,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Boogie Nights,” “Body of Evidence” and “Short Cuts.” In “Lovelace,” she had the luxury of picking her co-star, Peter Sarsgaard. Original Aliens, Terminator Props Being Auctioned Off

We report on offerings from Profiles in History from time to time, especially when we think it’s something a Daily Dead could be interested in bidding on. In this case we couldn’t pass up on telling readers about a couple of Aliens props hitting the auction block, along with a screen-used T-800 endoskeleton.

While the Terminator 2 item may be the big draw for some people, we’d love to get our hands on the full Alien warrior costume from Aliens. It’s reportedly one of three still in existence and is expected to sell for $80,000 – $120,000. We’ve included the official press release below, which includes more information on the upcoming auction. We’ve also been provided with a set of high-resolution photos below so that you can check out the items for yourself:

Nerdy Gift Idea: Buy the Dude's Sweater from 'The Big Lebowski'

12 December 2012 11:00 AM, PST | | See recent news »

When you're searching for nerdy movie-related gifts this holiday season, you can opt for something that's pretty blatant, like a Darth Vader helmet alarm clock, or go the subtle route with a gem like this replica of the sweater worn by the Dude in The Big Lebowski. This sweater, available over at 80stees, is a replica of the Cowichan sweater the character wore in the film, and regardless of who among your family and friends actually gets the reference (probably no one), this thing looks like something you won't want to take off. Unfortunately the price tag is $200, which may be the one negative. There are some other sweaters like it on eBay that are cheaper, but this one more closely resembles the one worn in the movie. From 80stees: Inspired by the Cowichan...

'Ghostbusters' live-read grabs Seth Rogen, Jack Black, and Rainn Wilson -- Exclusive

11 December 2012 5:07 PM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent - Inside Movies news »

There’s no replacing Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis as the original Ghostbusters, but if you were staging a one-night-only live version of the classic comedy, well … whom might one contact?

Seth Rogen, Jack Black, and Rainn Wilson are going to cross the streams.

The event is one of the monthly live-reads of a famous movie script organized by Juno and Up in the Air filmmaker Jason Reitman, who  — of course — has a family connection to this story. His father, Ivan Reitman, directed Ghostbusters and he remembers hanging around on the set as a little kid.

Studio: First Run Features

In the 2009 documentary film Rehearsal for a Sicilian Tragedy, actor John Turturro (The Big Lebowski)  takes an  intimate journey to his maternal homeland of Sicily, with a focus on the land’s traditional puppet theater.

While in Sicily, Turturro is taken under the wing of Mimmo Cuticchio, one of the puppet theater’s few remaining practitioners, who runs the Opera dei Pupi. Cuticchio instructs Turturro in the distinctively Sicilian art of puppetry, which offers numerous colorful adventures set in a stylized puppet world of honorable knights, dragons, duels, mermaids and magic.

Filmed during preparations for the Sicilian Day of the Dead, the film is directed by Turturro’s longtime collaborator, Roman Paska, himself a world-renowned puppeteer.

Top 10: Best Drunk Scenes in Film

7 December 2012 3:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Getting drunk and making a fool of yourself is far different from watching other drunk people make fools of themselves. This is true especially in films: when an actor is behaving outrageously, you can’t help but laugh.  To mark next Friday’s (December 14th) release of Smashed, a film about a young couple and their penchant for drinking, we have compiled our favourite scenes of on-screen drunkenness.

Old School

Old School is a story of three friends, disillusioned by the reality of their lives, who decide to form their own fraternity to relive their college days. This is the scene where Frank (Will Ferrell) gets absolutely wasted at their frat party and goes streaking. He is so drunkenly disillusioned that he thinks the entire party has followed suit, only to be found running down a major road, stark naked, by his wife and her friends.

First Images Of Fantasy ‘Seventh Son’ Starring Jeff Bridges & Julianne Moore

3 December 2012 12:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

When I heard Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore were reuniting, I was of course hoping for a The Big Lebowski reunion. However, their latest effort couldn’t be further from that seminal piece of work. Seventh Son is a fantasy adventure based on a Young Adult novel. Bridges plays a knight, Master John Gregory, who recruits a seventh son of a seventh son as his apprentice. Together they must battle Moore’s Mother Malkin, a witch whom was imprisoned centuries earlier.

Fantasy films are always difficult to set apart on their plots alone, so I’ll wait for a trailer before making a judgement as to whether this is something to be excited for. Bridges certainly seems excited, discussing his role and wearing those costumes:

He’s an interesting cat. He’s appreciated for keeping evil away, but he’s also a frightening figure to the townspeople. When you mess around with darkness, »
