Trivia:
Originally conceived as a vehicle for latina actress Mel Gorham, the original pilot was centered around Gorham as a wacky worker in a Florida souvenir shop who moved to New York and found herself at a diner surrounded by equally wacky characters. Before it aired, the network and producers decided Gorham wasn't the right fit for the series, and the show was retooled as more of an ensemble piece, with Constance Marie in the now-reduced role vacated by Gorham.

I have vague memories of this show. All I remember is that it came on after Friends and before Seinfeld. NBC used this trick many times, trying to get sitcoms that would ordinarily go unnoticed to reach a large audience. People are indeed that lazy that they will sit through anything just so they don't have to find something to occupy the time before Seinfeld. Hell, I'm just as guilty as the next person. I was a complete Seinfeld addict in it's last season, so I managed to sit through this show. It was pretty much a low-rent Friends/Cheers rip-off. A bunch of oddball people who ordinarily would never hang out with each other all came together at this little diner in (you guessed it) New York City, called Union Square. There really isn't much too the show. It only lasted like 3 months before it got canned. I can't honestly say that I miss it. It was about as good as all of the other Friends/Seinfeld cursed shows in the history of NBC like Jesse and the infamous Single Guy. No one ever accounts NBC for having good taste when it comes to new sitcoms.
