A few innuendos and references

John makes a crack about the bed having plenty of space for 'movement'


A caretaker makes a joke that the hotel is going to blow up soon.

We see a woman lying in a bathtub who slit her wrists. There's blood pouring from her fingers and we see a small puddle of blood on the bathroom floor.

A caretaker mentions that a former employee of the hotel killed himself with a shotgun

Danny has a vision where a firehose comes to life and bites into the camera

Danny has another vision that his father has a bloody crocket-mallet next to him in the car. In reality, it turns out to be a bag of groceries

Danny has another vision and almost falls off an edge because of it. John catches him.

In a flashback, we see that Danny breaks a basketball-hoop with his secret powers during a game. No players are harmed

To prove how strong his powers are, Danny sends a thought towards Hallorann. It is so strong that it breaks the taillight on Hallorann's car and gives Hallorann a bloody nose

In another vision of Dannys, we see that a wall is splattered with blood

When John uncovers a wasp's nest under the roof, one wasp stings him and he almost falls off the roof

John shakes Danny violently and accidentally bangs his head against the toilet

Many wasps stings Danny, Winifred and John.

In a flashback, we see how two men shoots two other men dead to get to a third man (no blood). After that, we only hear the comotion but it is implied that the third man is killed with both an ax and a shotgun

A firehose suddenly comes off its hinges and Danny imagines it spilling blood on the floor

Danny sees a word written in blood on his wall

John imagines several topiary animals coming to life and stalking him. He trips on the snow-covered lawn and a swing breaks loose and hits him on the jaw

John breaks a radio with a mallet

Danny sees a ghostly, bloated woman sitting in a bathtub. He runs away in fear. He gets out on the hallway but suddenly the ghost grabs him from behind and pulls him in.

We see Danny having some bruises on his neck

Winifred breaks a window with a ball and accidentally trips over that same ball

On several occasions, ghosts appears with scary facial features

John violently pushes Winifred

In another of Dannys visions, we see John approaching him with a mallet. His eyes are all white and his teeth are bloody

Hallorann falls ill when Danny mentally calls and begs him for help

John drunkingly falls over a bar-counter and lands hard on the floor

Winifred goes to look after John. He suddenly attacks her and begins to choke her. When Danny interferes, John pushes him aside. Winifred then knocks out John by smashing a bottle on his head

John hits Winifred in the stomach with a mallet, causing her to bleed from her mouth. She crawls over the floor and John hits her on the knee and once in the head with the mallet.

Winifred slams a door in John's hand

Winifred throws a ball in John's face. His face turns extremely bloody and his nose appears to be broken. As the movie progresses, the blood on his face dries up

Winifred kicks John in the groin

John hammers away at a door to get to Winifred. He grabs her through the door and Winifred slices John's hand with a razor, turning it bloody

John hits Hallorann with the mallet, downing him. John hits him a second time (he survives)

In another of Danny's visions, a ghost shoots at him with a shotgun.

John spits blood on several occasions

A ghost pushes John aside. John then turns the tables on the ghosts and sacrifices himself by blowing up the boiler, destroying the hotel in a fiery inferno. The topiary animals also burns. Danny, Winifred, and Hallorann escape.

Some mild and moderate profanity. One use of the word "Fuck" "The fuckin' forecast is wrong!"

A big theme in the movie is John wrestling with his past as an alcoholic. Therefore there are plenty of references made about this. We also hear and see his violent tendencies when he's drunk.

In a flashback, we see that John has been drinking a bottle of hard liquor.

PG-13 level

Much of the movie is intense and suspenseful, though it is far less intense than the original.

We hear disembodied voices.

Suggested MPAA Rating: PG-13 for thematic material including sequences of violence/terror, brief strong language, and some sexual references
