Will All My Children and One Life to Live Return from the Dead? Burning Questions Answered

24 December 2012 12:38 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

On Jan. 13, it will be a year since One Life to Live signed off of ABC. And All My Children has been gone even longer. But in either case, did anyone see a body? Hmmm….

As first reported by our sister site Deadline, Prospect Park, the entertainment production company that sought to keep both of the aforementioned soaps alive online but ultimately had to put a pin in that plan, is again looking to revisit Pine Valley and Llanview.

Because hopes were raised only to be dashed the first time around, Prospect Park is laboring to be more “cautious” and »

NBC, which two years ago sought (yet failed) to reboot The Rockford Files and more recently sought (but failed) to breathe new life into The Munsters, next will take a crack at getting an update of Ironside rolling.

As reported by New York Magazine‘s Vulture blog, the Peacock network is putting into development a reboot of its late-’60s/early-’70s legal drama. Back in the day, the series starred Raymond Burr as Robert T. Ironside, a San Francisco police detective who, upon being paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet, leverages his way into a “special consultant” role at the Pd. »

General Hospital: To Be Replaced By a Reality Show Version?

1 December 2012 10:30 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

According to the NY Post, ABC is considering a reality show version of General Hospital. The show would revolve around the personal and professional lives of doctors and nurses who work at a Los Angeles hospital (rather than fictional Port Charles, New York).

The new show is apparently in the very early stages of development and filming has quietly begun at UCLA Medical Center. ABC is said to be considering this new "General Hospital" show for the daytime schedule.

The crazy thing is that 50-year-old General Hospital could end up being replaced by a reality show version of itself. Though the soap opera has been performing well this season -- reportedly rising 18% in total viewers year-to-year (2.37 to 2.81 million) -- the network is still on the look out for ways to expand their audience and cut costs.

He's met his maker twice but you can't stop Cesar Faison from terrorizing General Hospital! The über-tressed supervillain — played by fan favorite Anders Hove — returned to the ABC soap Nov. 12 in a triple shockaroo. Not only is Faison still alive after supposedly being blown to bits in a boat explosion, he's also the brains behind the kidnapping of Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough). Crazier still, it was also revealed that he's been running around Port Charles in a prosthetic mask pretending to be Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan). Meanwhile, he's holding the real Duke hostage. TV Guide Magazine rang Hove at his home in Denmark to chat about Faison's freaky return and, of course, we asked him the question on everyone's mind: How the hell does Faison cram all that hair into his Duke mask?

General Hospital’s John Ingle Dead at 84

17 September 2012 11:33 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

John Ingle, who played General Hospital’s Edward Quartermaine for nearly two decades, died Sunday.

Ingle’s family announced his passing Monday on Facebook. Gh executive producer Frank Valentini later shared the news via Twitter, saying, “We love him and will miss him. John will always be part of the #Gh family.”

Ingle played the ABC soaps’ irascible Quartermaine patriarch on and off for 19 years, (succeeding David Lewis, who died in 2000) with his last stint beginning in 2006. In recent years, Edward was a mainly backburner player whose storylines involved health scares like the character’s 2009 heart attack.

During one of his breaks from Port Charles, Ingle spent two years playing Mickey Horton on NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

Ingle’s showbiz career began in the 1980s and included roles on The Drew Carey Show, Knots LandingBig Love, The Office, Parks and Recreation and Beverly Hills, 90210,.

Will Young and the Restless‘ loss be General Hospital‘s gain?

Daytime Emmy winner Genie Francis has been let go from the CBS soap, CBS Soaps In Depth has learned. “Budgetary reasons” are reportedly behind the firing, though a spokesperson for the series tells TVLine that the show does “not comment on contracts, rumors or storyline information.”

The suds vet first joined Y&R in early 2011 as Cane’s long-estranged mother Genevieve. The gig, however short-lived, reunited Francis with her former Gh co-star Tristan Rogers, who joined the soap as her character’s bitter ex-husband.

General Hospital Photos: An Action-Packed Week is Coming

10 September 2012 8:00 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

General Hospital makes its move to its new timeslot on Monday, September 10, as the mass poisoning of Port Charles residents continues to take its toll. The time change is ushered in with plenty of action, stunts and location shooting.

Über-villain Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roché) has introduced a pathogen into the water supply and almost everyone in the city is poisoned. For a unique ransom, Jerry will deliver an antiserum within forty-eight hours before the entire city dies.

In an attempt to save the city (and himself) Todd bands together Port Charles’s wealthiest citizens to put up the $88+million dollar ransom. Todd (Roger Howarth), Sonny (Maurice Benard), Jax (Ingo Rademacher), Carly (Laura Wright) and Johnny (Brandon Barash) all gather at the docks to meet Jerry and pay the ransom. The odd alliance intentionally avoids telling the police about the plan so that Jerry’s “no cops” rule is enforced.

General Hospital: Steve Burton Leaving; Jason Morgan, Ethical Mob Boss

General Hospital: Steve Burton Leaving; Jason Morgan, Ethical Mob Boss

General Hospital: How Ethical Is Your Mob Boss? – Jason Morgan

Steve Burton’s announcement that he is departing General Hospital after 21 years creates an opportunity to discuss the love/hate relationship with organized crime in the fictional town of Port Charles.

Newer viewers only may be familiar with the hitman-with-a-heart, Jason Morgan.  But before there was “Jason Morgan”, there was “Jason Quartermaine”, a polite, sweet med student who lived at the Q mansion, wore varsity sweaters and served tea.  Jason Quartermaine was sweet, but hardly a compelling character, despite Burton’s mining the role for everything it was worth.

Enter black sheep, A.J. who was kind enough to take dear, sweet Jason out for a car ride.  A.J., in his usual drunken state, crashed the car into a tree, leaving brother Jason with brain damage.  Thank goodness. »

Steve Burton Leaving General Hospital, Joining James Franco’s New Telenovela

29 August 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

General Hospital is losing one of its longest-running and most important characters: Steve Burton, who has played Jason Morgan since 1991, will tape his last episode in September, he tells TV Guide. Duhn-duhn-duuuuhn. "I have no complaints, no negative feelings at all," he says, "but it's time to go." Burton's exit comes not long after Gh's long-time executive producer Jill Farren Phelps was pushed out, and it looks like the two of them, plus James Franco, are working on a new show together. According to Burton, Franco had so much fun working on Phelps's Hollywood Heights that he "want[ed] to make one of his own novellas." Such is Franco! "Jill will Ep it, I'll produce and star in it and so will James," Burton says. Take comfort, Port Charles residents. »
