The coast guard finds a piece of wreckage with a decayed hand wearing a peace dove ring. The next night, by clear weather, the dispatcher receives at night an anonymous call about the sinking of the Turanga during a storm years ago. The team works on both the people who were or may have been aboard the Turanga and the presumable anonymous caller. The links is a vindictively uncooperative abandoned daughter, whom the dispatcher however charms into playing bait. This also tears open a dangerous old wound.

However the coat guard finds him near not such a gas mass, but wreckage from Thiele's fatal drama.
