You Won't Believe It's Been 20 Years Since These TV Shows Premiered

9 August 2016 4:30 PM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

As we're gearing up for Fall TV, we couldn't help but think about how many new series are reboots of old shows or movies. It got us thinking about the days of yore (aka the '90s), when all the pilots felt fresh. I mean, come on, you don't get more original than Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a series about aliens posing as a family. Family-centric shows like Dawson's Creek were a sign of the times! Before this year's crop of new shows hits primetime, take a look back and remember the shows that were hits two decades ago, all the way back in 1996. »

Den Of Geek Aug 9, 2016

With a budget of £5 at their local pound shop, we set three of our writers the challenge of building a Dalek. Did they manage it? Er

Channelling the spirit of summer school holiday classic Why Don’t You?, Den Of Geek decided its writers should just switch off their television sets and go out and do something less boring instead. That thing would be to construct a home-made Dalek to the best of their abilities, using a budget of £5* and items purchased at their local pound shop.

Here’s what happened.

*We were allowed to go up to £7 if required. Anyone that chose to go up to £7 definitely did not cheat - Lm

The early-mid 2000s were a very different era. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were splitting up in what would be the divorce of the decade, while Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes would start dating and get engaged that same year: 2005. TomKat was a whirlwind courtship, for sure. After dating less than three months of dating, the Dawson's Creek alum and the Mission: Impossible star would announce their engagement. But what makes this relationship truly stand out was how public everything was. From the initial dates to the wedding and birth of their child, everything about TomKat was splashed all over the Internet, magazines and more. From Must-See TV to Peak TV: 20 Years of covering television

2 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

If you were a TV critic from 1956 to 1976, you would have witnessed some big changes in the business: the rise and fall of the Western as the dominant primetime genre, or the color TV boom, or CBS' shift from silly rural comedies to socially conscious ones like All in the Family and M*A*S*H. If you covered the beat from 1976 to 1996, you would have written about Hill Street Blues and its many imitators, the classic years of SNL, and the early days of original cable programming. Almost any 20-year span would give you a front row seat to enormous artistic and technological change. As of this week, I've been professionally writing about television for exactly 20 years(*), and it's safe to say that the only two-decade period that featured a more radical transformation in how television was made and consumed would be back when the medium was first introduced into America's living rooms. »

Reviewing every 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' season 2 episode

18 April 2016 6:35 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Netflix released the whole second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Friday, and I'm going to offer some overall thoughts on the season, followed by specific takes on each episode, coming up just as soon as I ask whether Cate Blanchett is really a great actress, or just tall... Netflix made the first six episodes available to critics, and while I enjoyed most of those early installments, the back half of the season was by far the stronger part, and the phase of things where the shift from making episodes for NBC to making them for Netflix was much more apparent. Season 1 also turned more serialized towards the end, with the trial of the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne, and it had its emotional moments as Kimmy faced down her captor. But the later episodes of season 2 felt darker and more complicated in their attempt to address Kimmy's emotional damage. »
