Storyline

A war photographer in different theatres of conflict, Belfast, Beirut, Mogadishu begins to suspect that his uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time to get the perfect shot is making him an agent of the action that is more causal of the conflict than reactive to it. This takes the argument about whether a war correspondent is a recorder or instigator of drama to an interesting new level. Written by Patrick Duncan

MUDDLED AND QUASI-PROFOUND
28 May 1999 | by See all my reviews

Muddled and incomprehensible drama with cinematography that is repeatedly below the mark. Herbert Knaup thinks that a war photographer with a guilty conscience walks and looks like a zombie; UN troops and helicopters constantly fill the image for no apparent reason; the photographer becomes a sniper himself - or not, there is no way of finding out; and a there is a lot of action that have nothing to do with the subject. All this leaves the viewer in the end in complete bewilderment and asking himself: what did I miss and were the makers covering up a bad film by giving it a quasi-profoundness? Save your time and take up photographing yourself.
