A smart young female lawyer (Baxendale) is suddenly contacted by some old university mates. Baxendale finds it a relief to go out and enjoy some nightlife but it soon becomes apparent that the so called mates are actually playing a sadistic game with her and one that could end up in murder. Written by Scott Dawson <sdawson@easynet.co.uk>
This is a movie that engaged me from start to fadeout. It introduced a thirty-something divorcee, likeable from the outset, who, having it altogether,(within her cosy, if conservative law firm) becomes unravelled when 3 friends of her university days descend upon her. They were all free spirits then, but as she remarks in later disillusionment, she's "the one who grew up." (she's wrong about that -the trio proves, in time, to be sophisticated beyond her worst nightmare). She's vulnerable to their machinations, because of her status within the community; her promiscuity; her up-tightness; and her murky past.(A brush with the Law). This movie should appeal to those who like action, in that it moves, at a cracking pace, (great editing, here), psychological drama(the characters all are unique), suspense (who's gonna murder whom?), and a Message in their movie (how four once-close-friends, can turn, eventually, each against the other because of their "growth" whether it be, upward, outward, or stunted)... there's even some unexpected sex! Yes, a very well-scripted absorbing yarn, in which one can identify with the characters (I got mad at all four protagonists!), appreciate the absence of cliches, and say,at film's end. "Terrific!"
