One day Jessica, a girl with a mysterious past, walks in and help turn the tables so to speak by dancing on them and taking her clothes off. This leads to the bar turning into a strip club and Mitch becoming more and more attracted to Jessica and less attracted to his alcoholic wife. Plans are soon devised to make Mitch's life more satisfactory but Jessica's past slowly creeps up on her and comes out in the open. Written by Josh Pasnak <chainsaw@intouch.bc.ca>

Maria Ford as stripper femme fatale
22 January 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Showgirl Murders" (1996) may make you think this is about a serial killer whose victims are showgirls. Think again. Maria Ford plays the vamp, the femme fatale, the showgirl. And there are murders herein.

This is a well-done erotic thriller that is a genuine neo-noir. I do not expect it to be much noticed by mainstream critics and writers. However, it takes noir twists to a level at which you may well wonder which main character will win out, if any, and all are morally culpable except one who is a victim. Until the last few frames, the outcome of the twists (or double crosses or plots laid upon plots) is unknown. The ending is true to noir, however.

Along the way, Maria Ford does maybe 6 strip tease acts and they are well-done. The action takes place mainly in a bar owned by Matt Preston and wife D.S. Case. Ford has many plans, and Preston finds it very hard to resist. We are in "Double Indemnity" and "Postman" territory again. It's familiar but it has more than enough novelty to hold our attention.
