When David is talking with Katharine Prichard in her home, on the shelf behind her is a photograph of a World War I soldier. This is Lieutenant Hugo Throssell who won the Victoria Cross at Hill 60 in Gallipoii. The pair met in London where he was recuperating and later married. After a string of business failures Throssell committed suicide in 1933 and is buried in the military section of the Karrakatta cemetery in Perth, Western Australia.
