Satanic Sunday: Women Vs. the Devil

19 October 2014 12:37 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Most female characters in film succumb to the Devil. They are used as vessels or conduits for the Anti-Christ, lesser demons or the grandiose ideas of an occult. More often than not- they are chased, seduced or beaten into submission by satanic happenings. But some of these women do display degrees of ingenuity, agency and physical prowess in their battle against coercion and the corruption of souls. Ranked from weakest characterization to strongest, the following list discusses the faculties that these women retain in the face of evil. (Minor spoilers ahead).

Lisa (Elke Sommer) is overtaken by the spirit of a long deceased woman named Elena and the Devil all at once. Trapped deep in her mind, we hardly know Lisa outside of her light, carefree existence as an American tourist right before her possession. Purely »

Paul Giamatti Joins N.W.A. Biopic, 'Straight Outta Compton'

18 August 2014 7:11 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Universal's N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton playing music manager Jerry Heller for director F. Gary Gray. I also never reported on the casting of Neil Brown Jr. as DJ Yella and Aldis Hodge as Mc Ren, two names that weren't included in the original casting announcement which actually had me scratching my head a little since I personally appreciated the work of both those guys when I used to listen to a lot of N.W.A. and to think the group was merely Eazy, Cube and Dre would have been a bit dismissive. As for Heller, before co-founding Ruthless Records with Eazy-e he worked with the likes of Pink Floyd and Elton John and was later seen as one of the reasons N.W.A. ultimately broke up, favoring Eazy over the other members of the group. The film has been set for an August 14, 2015 release, »

N.W.A. Biopic 'Straight Outta Compton' Dated, but What N.W.A. Movie are We Going to Seec

18 June 2014 11:56 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Universal has been putting together their N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, for some time now and have finally agreed on a cast, director and release date. The film, which will star O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-e respectively, will focus on the mid-80s gangsta rap group and sets out to tell the story of how the group revolutionized music and pop culture forever, by telling the world the truth about life in the hood, which ignited a cultural war. But will the truth about N.W.A. be toldc I grew up listening to N.W.A. so I'll be interested to see how this turns out and just how much dirt it gets into. Considering it's produced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre with no mention of Antoine Carraby (DJ Yella) or Lorenzo Patterson (Mc Ren) I have my doubts about how authentic it will be. »

First Look At The Cast And Filmmakers For Nwa Biopic Straight Outta Compton

18 June 2014 11:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After spending a long while in development, Nwa biopic Straight Outta Compton is finally moving forward now that it’s cast its three stars. O’Shea Jackson Jr. stars as Ice Cube (the actor is Cube’s son in real life), Corey Hawkins will take on the part of Dr. Dre, and Jason Mitchell has been tasked with bringing Eazy-e to life.

I’m excited to see the three young actors chosen to portray Cube, Dre and Easy-e on the big screen – all of them look somewhat similar to their real-life counterparts, and the thorough casting process that the filmmakers went through to find them speaks to how well Jackson, Hawkins and Mitchell must have embodied the rappers.

The biopic will chart the origins of rapper group Nwa and its rise to prominence with hits like “Fuck tha Police” and the title song. Check out an extended synopsis for the film, »
