Bingham Ray has passed away after suffering a stroke at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Ray, 57, cofounded October Films in 1991 and was at the helm of the film house when championed such indie breakouts as Breaking the Waves, Secrets & Lies, and The Apostle. In 1999, he sold the company to USA Networks. Two years later, Ray took a post as president of United Artists and oversaw the production of Bowling for Columbine and Hotel Rwanda.
