Sabrina's surname was changed from 'Sawyer' to 'Spellman' for the television series, whilst Marnie Littlefield was renamed Jenny Kelley.
This film was later adapted into the TV series Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996), with all of the actors except for Melissa Joan Hart and Michelle Beaudoin being recast. Compared to the film, the television series was more slapstick in nature and added a laugh track.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was considered for the role of Sabrina Spellman.
Unlike the TV series that developed after the movie, Salem has a British accent and Harvey is attracted to Sabrina first. In the TV series, Sabrina is attracted to Harvey first.
