Jason Katims To Adapt ‘About A Boy’ As Comedy Series Project For NBC

Exclusive: Friday Night Lights and Parenthood developer/executive producer Jason Katims is returning to his comedy roots with About A Boy, a single-camera comedy based on the Nick Hornby book and 2002 movie. NBC has bought the project, from Katims’ True Jack Prods; Universal TV; and Working Title and Tribeca Prods, the companies that produced the Hugh Grant-starring feature. Written and executive produced by Emmy-winner Katims, About A Boy follows the relationship between a bachelor man-child and the young boy who moves in next door with his kooky single mother. Katims’ head of development, Michelle Lee, will serve as producer. This is the second stab at developing About A Boy as a comedy series. Matt Reeves Inks Overall Deal With 20th TV

Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves is returning to television with an overall deal at 20th Century Fox TV. Under the pact, Reeves is expected to create, write and direct broadcast and cable projects as well as supervise other writers. Reeves was a feature writer-director (The Pallbearer) when he teamed with J.J. Abrams to co-create Felicity, which helped put the WB on the map. Since the end of the series in 2002, he has only directed two drama pilots — ABC’s Miracles and NBC’s Dick Wolf series Conviction – focusing his attention on features including directing the Abrams-produced sleeper hit Cloverfield and writing and directing Let Me In. 20th TV chairman Gary Newman said Reeves “has been one of the top 2-3 drama director names every pilot season that every studio goes to with their best projects.” Reeves had resisted returning to TV until now. “This is an incredibly exciting time in the »
