Released in the UK and Ireland this week, Michael Hoffman (One Fine Day) returns behind the camera to bring us Gambit, with an impressive leading cast in Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, and Alan Rickman.

Renowned writers Joel and Ethan Coen (The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men) have penned the script, and after we saw four new clips for the film earlier in the week, Momentum have released another new clip, giving us a look at Diaz’s arrival in the UK.

“Private art curator Harry Deane devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England’s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar, into purchasing a fake Monet painting. In order to bait his buyer, he recruits a Texas rodeo queen to cross the pond and pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.”

'Gambit' & 'The Last Station' Director Michael Hoffman To Helm Nicholas Sparks Adaptation 'The Best Of Me'

27 September 2012 1:28 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Now middle-aged and leading different lives, a couple from opposite sides of the tracks rekindle their young romance, when a funeral in their hometown brings them together. If this all sounds vaguely familiar, that's because it's yet another Nicholas Sparks adaptation, a man who has turned formulaic and manipulative romances into a cottage industry of crap. Warner Bros. is behind this latest venture, picking up the rights when Sparks pitched it to them before he even wrote the book (because why bother writing it, if it's not going to be spawned into a movie, right?). This time around Michael Hoffman, the thoroughly adequate helmer behind fare such as "The Last Station," "One Fine Day," The Emperor's Club" and the upcoming "Gambit" is helming the picture. Will Fetters, who has experience dealing with Sparks' pablum, having penned this year's "The Lucky One," is being courted to rewrite the first draft by J. »

Michael Hoffman in Talks to Direct Nicholas Sparks Adaptation The Best Of Me

27 September 2012 12:05 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Another day, another Nicholas Sparks feature film adaptation.  With The Lucky One’s release this past April and Safe Haven set to hit theaters in February, Warner Bros. is putting yet another Nicolas Sparks adaptation in the pipeline.  Deadline reports that Michael Hoffman (One Fine Day, The Emperor’s Club) is in talks to direct The Best of Me, with The Lucky One scribe Will Fetters being courted to rewrite the screenplay.  The story centers on two teenagers from opposite sides of the tracks (aren’t they all?) who fell in love in high school but were torn apart shortly thereafter, setting them on two radically different paths.  They reconnect in their hometown twenty-five years later at a funeral, where they’re forced to drum up the past and confront painful memories. Hoffman most recently directed the remake of Gambit with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz, which hits theaters early next year. »

It's been over a year since British Oscar winner Colin Firth last graced our screens, starring as the duplicitous Bill Haydon in Tomas Alfredson's wonderful adaptation of spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). However, it looks like Firth was merely biding his time for the release of Gambit (2012), a new Coen brothers-scripted comedy from Michael Hoffman - the man behind George Clooney rom-com One Fine Day (1996) and 2009's Last Station. A first UK trailer for Hoffman's latest emerged today, giving us an initial glimpse of Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman and Stanley Tucci in action.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Movie Review

26 August 2012 12:15 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Very seldom does Bollywood attempt a love story of people on the wrong side of forty. Therefore, the promos of Bela Sehgal directed Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi came as a breath of fresh air, promising a funny and heartwarming rom-com of two 40 plus protagonists. Unfortunately, the film could not live up to the promise.

Farhad (Boman Irani) is a 45 year old lingerie salesman who lives with his mother (Daisy Irani) and grandmother (Shammi). His unmarried status is not only the cause of his loneliness but also embarrassment in front of his Parsi family and friends. One fine day, 40 year old Shirin (Farah Khan) walks into his lingerie store and Farhad falls head over heels in love. However the path of true love is never easy, is it?

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi is a noble attempt but painfully amateur. The film needed a director who could balance »

Boman Irani: “I am very proud of the way Farah and I have gelled so beautifully together in Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi”

22 August 2012 9:53 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

I admit, I love love stories, and from the first time that I saw the trailer of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, I thought that this was going to be a cute romantic comedy. However, this not your average filmi romance because instead of young love, this film tells the story of finding your soul mate even when you think it might be to late in life. Shirin and Farhad are two over-forty middle aged Parsi people leading their lives amidst a fast dwindling Parsi community. Self content and enveloped in their daily worldly affairs, they have not had the time to pause and think about love. That is, until they meet each other. What follows is an unconventional love story – quirky and sweet, having its own essence of romance, and teaching the world that love has no expiry date. The film marks the acting debut of choreographer and director Farah Khan, »

Watch My Home Movie: Cory McAbee’s Latest, Masturbation Or Art?

You may not know exactly what to expect from a Cory McAbee film, a man, who, with only one feature length film to his name, has a sizable cult following. His latest, Crazy & Thief is an hour long musical fantasy that may try your patience if you aren’t particularly fond of watching aimless children or experimental nepotism.

One fine day in New York City, 7 year old girl Crazy (Willa Vy McAbee) take a splotch of blank ink, dots up a blank manila envelope, calls it a Star Map and takes her 2 year old brother Thief (John Huck McAbee) on a city search for stars not in the sky, but here on Earth. They find stars on bottle caps, on shop windows, as graffiti, etc. Hungry, they employ a scheme for young Thief to acquire food, but, not knowing any better, »

Twins: Michelle's Blonde Brood

13 June 2012 11:22 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

We're celebrating twins daily at 2:22 pm while we're in Gemini

Gratuitous Anecdote! I've always loved to draw and in my high school years it's what people knew me for. I won the High School's Departmental Award in Art (Do they still have departmental awards? Hell, do they still have art classes?) in that heady stretch of graduation celebrations where they keep honoring star pupils. One day early in my senior year or maybe it was at the end of my junior year, the art teacher asked one of the students to pose for the class. A guy I didn't know volunteered and I felt totally inspired. Instant crushing helps. He loved my drawing and we became fast friends after the class. The first day I went to his house after school I was stunned to see a whole house full of doppelgangers. He had one of those families »

Early chatter indicates a film in the vein of 'Sleepy Hollow' with both farcical and 'full-bodied horror' elements.

The death of actor Jonathan Frid, the original Barnabas Collins, makes this a sad week in the "Dark Shadows"-verse. The 87-year-old, classically trained actor passed away at a hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, on April 13 after a fall at his home. Frid cameos in Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation of the '60s soap opera, which hits theaters on May 11. It will be his final screen appearance.

"Jonathan Frid was the reason I used to run home from school to watch 'Dark Shadows,' " the film's star, Johnny Depp, told the La Times in an e-mail from the Arizona set of "The Lone Ranger." "His elegance and grace was an inspiration then and will continue to remain one forever more. »

30 Absurd Oscar Nominated Movies

This weekend, the 84th Academy Awards will, finally, put an end to the endless lack of debates that are happening right now about who will take home Oscar gold. Historically, the Oscars are a night when the best of the best are pitted against one another: Where, in the past, films like Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Norbit all compete for immortality. Oscar fever, catch it! What's that? Oh, yeah, Norbit was nominated for an Academy Award. In fact, there are a lot of movies that were nominated for an Academy Award in a plethora of different categories that you probably had no idea were "Academy Award-nominated movies." So, with that, here are the most absurd Academy Award-nominated movies from the last 20 years, in no particular order. (So, congratulations, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, you can now proudly mention yourself in the same sentence as Beethoven's 2nd.) 1. Norbit, Oscar-Nominated Movie (Best Makeup) 2.
